So I'll try making this easy. I have a PC, in it the RAM is DDR4 3000Mhz. Motherboard is an Asus b350m-a. I cant get the ram clock speed past 2133Mhz. This is the RAM I'm using specifically https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0123ZBPDA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (16gb total, all channels used) Latest BIOS is on it which should have aided me here, OC Tuning doesn't help, I doubt it's a power related issue (450w bronze PSU sucks but wouldnt be the issue), everything else is OCable (even the RX480 in here surprisingly) except this RAM which only fails to boot if I try going higher than 2133. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? It's been bugging me for a while. On top of this I'm getting varied speed readings as well from some tools on hand.
What's your CPU look like? RAM controller is usually CPU based, so if your CPU isn't up to the task, it could be holding you back.
Odd, that should be supported. OC'ing it more won't change this, should already be enough. You might want to read through this thread, certainly looks applicable: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/66ggjd/psa_about_ryzen_and_memory_compatibility/ TL;DR: You may need certain types of Samsung RAM to get to 3000 and above. Before messing with any of that though, you might want to send an e-mail to your Mobo's support. ASUS sometimes suggests / gives out beta versions of the board's BIOS to try if you contact them.
I read about this actually. On release, that ram was what "just worked" best so to say. You know what I think I'll actually try that.
Decided to take a look at the verified vendors for memory since that is provided. Searched my specific modules and came across the following entries Code: CORSAIR CMK8GX4M2B3000C15(Ver3.21) 8GB(2*4GB) SS N/A Heat-Sink Package 15-17-17-35 1.35V 3000 2933 CORSAIR CMK8GX4M2B3000C15 8GB(2*4GB) SS N/A Heat-Sink Package 15-17-17-35 1.35V 3000 2133 The last entry, where theyre different (2933, 2133) is on the column for ryzen support. Mine unfortunately is the latter, stuck at 2133 due to the CPU itself. That's a shame.
Warning : Second Hand Info. I have an old system. Sadly the best solution is to update your BIOS, as they have these things called AGESA which improve RAM compability and speed supported by a Ryzen system. It's one of the biggest "flaws" of the Ryzen processors right now, It has peculiar RAM compability issues and the actual processor gets faster, the faster RAM you put into it.
I actually just purchased a MB from the same line. Sorry to hear about your problem. When I purchased my ram, I made sure I got sticks that were rated fast and compatible. People say that's the best you can do right now. :/ Edit: For reference, the sticks I ended up getting were "CMK16GX4M2B3000C15(Ver4.24)", which are rated at 2933 clock speed.
I have a Asus X370 board and LPX RAM, and I have issues going above 2900Mhz. I think it'll just take time for AMD and board manufacturers to grind through getting all the different types of modules working.
