Anyone have a guide to opening a NEC TE AC Adapter? It is product code HES-ACA-04. I have one here that seems to work intermittently if you wiggle the wire which leads me to believe it is a loose connection. I'm game to crack open the brick and resolder the wire connections but I can't see any obvious way to open it up. Anyone done this before? Any advice? Thanks in advance. -hl718
Most PSUs are sealed units and are a pig to take apart, some units are bolted so you can remove the bolts to crack open the PSU. If it's not then you'd be be better off getting a generic PSU that runs at 7.5V at 700ma or better and find the correct end.
If it's 7.5v, you are in luck. You can get a Sony PSone AC adapter, outputs 7.5v at up to 2 amps. You will probalbly need to solder on the correct size plug though.
Power spec for a Turbo Express AC Adapter is an output of DC 7.0V @ 700mA. I know the higher amperage rating isn't an issue as that's the max the PS can supply, but would I have to wory about the voltage difference? If the system is expecting 7.0V and I'm feeding it 7.5V are there any concerns? (it's been way too many years since my last EE class) Thanks. -hl718
The voltage difference between 7V and 7.5V isn't enough to be worried about, as a general rule most consoles have a 15% tollerance of PSU. So 8V will be fine. Handhelds don't really have a voltage regulator on them so putting a higher voltage can damage the machine.
