The worst has happened, the unthinkable. My (modded) Saturn has broke down. I'm pretty sure that bullshit hidden game article that I fell for fucked up the drive somehow. It now reads ALL CDs as music CDs and boots NO games, original or not, domestic or import. I have no tech-savvy and nedless to say am desperate for any hel anyone can offer on a Saturn that no longer boots games. Any help GREATLY appreciated. Thanks much.
it happened to me one or two times when i wnated to play a game , but the problem is pretty uncomon on my saturn (like i said its hapened one or two times ..) there wasnt a button in the music program that let you switch betwen the game and the cd? or at the start at the saturn , press l and r to enter setup , i think theres an option for this , but im not sure. i hope this help. :smt023
Sounds to me like your mod chip has died. If you haven't already tried this then try running a game intended for you make of Saturn to see if that will boot. Yakumo
I've tried, Yakumo. No luck. I even took out the modchip - still nothing. Any ideas what could be wrong?
Hmm yes, I would`ve thought the modchip had caused this. I think there`s a plethora of topics about this on the SegaXtreme boards (www.phantasy-star-universe.com last time I checked)
Could it be the battery? I remember when I got mine the battery was dead and it kept going to Music CD but once I put in a fresh one it never happened again.
Try carefully raising the power of the CD laser. Look for the article "How to read CD-RWs on Saturn" on SegaXtreme, it teaches how to do it. In my experience with my own Saturn, if I decrease the power of the laser a little, it just reads the audio part of the cds. If I decrease it a lot, then it reads nothing.
No luck with any of the above, but thanks anyways , all, you guys were great. I need help with my DC Treamcast unit which fdied on me shortly after it arrived so I'll start a thread about that as well, hope someone can help. I do have 4-5 other Saturns but seeing as none of them are modded I'm pretty disappointed at my Saturn's sudden death. I pretty much only download and play backups of games I own sealed (such as pDS, RS etc) - otherwise they have no value to me - so this kind of leaves me stuck with only NiGHTS, Panzer Deagoon and some mediocre assorted titles.
Your saturn isn;t broken, i had the same problem as you did, all you have to do is desolder the wires and take out the mod chip and put back in the ribbion cable. Thats what i did and that saturn still works, have two of them actually.
I tried that lens calibration thingy on my already broken saturn.....now teh drive won't spin at all. It be fucked now ^_^
The same as soldering, except you apply the soldering iron on the solder and onece it becomes liquid again just quickl remove the wire, and try to wipe off the excess with the iron also.
