I wasn't sure whether to stick this in Ask The Forum, or Off Topic, i hope I picked the correct one, if not my appologies. Also if this post is against the TOS of Assembler or anything even more appologies, it wont happen again, please dont ban me [IMG]!!

    On with the topic:

I am currently the webmaster of a website under huge reconstruction, we've been around for 4 years now, although the past year the site has been in a severe state on neglect, things are back on track now however and to keep the train moving I need a little help.

The site is a network of smaller sites all dealing with different subject matter, there is a music review/article site, one for movies, and of course one for games (which is the one I need help with) as well as various other things (forum, chatroom, oekaki, flash games arcade, hosted smaller sites, etc).

I'm not going to post the url here, because I don't want to be seen as advertising my site, that isn't the idea at all (i removed its url from my profile and sig too ^_^) if i'm allowed to post the url I will, but I didn't want to upset the mods, or Assembler :)

Anyways, the help.. Video games site, yes yes, but not the standard kind. There are somewhere in the region of 2.2bazzillion games sites out there dealing with the latest mainstream games. But that's not what I want for this site, I instead want to deal with games that the majority of people havent heard of, the "obscure" and also look at some retro games too.

Which is basically why I came here for help, if there is one group of people on the web that I know of, that has an amazing knowledge of the obscure, it is the Assembler members. Add in the fact that from my experience here you are all nice helpful people willing to share your knowledge, and it seemed the logical place to come for assitance [IMG].

So what sort of thing am I looking for?

As far as the content goes, I see there being a variety of things:
    1. Reviews of retro and obscure games - by obscure games I'm generally thinking of the quirky Japanese stuff that we never get to see (for example that walking game from Gamecube that ImportOtaku spoke of).
    2. Articles such as "15 games you probably never heard of, but really should play" or "Eejits guide to 2D beat em ups" etc
    3. Articles that deal with the mainstream games (your marios, your final fantasys and what not) but do so in a comparative way such as "if you like game X you might also like games A, B and C because of such and such a reason.
    4. Articles on some of the subject matter dealt with here at assembler, such as the hardware that average joe probably has never heard of (Super Acans for example, or the PCFX)
    5. Guides to collecting, what to look for etc.
    6. Anything else that can be thought of that isn't really dealt with by IGN and Co.
I do think it will be ok to talk about the mainstream stuff every now and again, it would be nice for example to talk about the next generation in some articles and what it will offer us in terms of new games and experiences, and the new obscure games from Japan and what not that will probably come forth with it. :)

    Who Am I looking For?

Well, it would be ideal to find some people who would be willing to become "staff" or if they don't wish to attain said title, have them just submit a variety of content on a semi-regular basis.

It will also be useful for those willing to help to have access to obscure titles, I realise its a bit crap me having to ask you to supply the stuff to review, but until such time as the site makes money (or I win the lotto) it is the unfortunate reality [IMG] .

The ability to understand Japanese to a certain extent would probably be helpful for reviewing some of the obscure games, but then again you probably wouldnt have obscure games that require the language if you dont know it. I myself can understand basic Japanese and will be getting hold of titles myself for review.

I'll be honest and say that there are a couple of members here that I would love to have write articles for the site as they seem to have vast stores of information on this kind of stuff in their head haha. But the Assembler community as a whole is extremely knowledgable in general so I wont mention who they are hehe :).

    Final Note:

The plan is to get a backlog going and then launch the games site within the network, it is currently up, but hidden as it has no content, and its design is incomplete.

Thank you in advance to anyone taking the time to reply, and to anyone willing to help, feel free to PM me if you have any questions you dont want to ask in the thread.

    Thanks. [IMG]

I'd be up for contributing something along the lines of "Collectors Guide" for certain consoles. Putting how to get started on a particular console into plain english, e.g. essential games, best hardware to buy etc.

I knew there would be others out there, its good to see the "competition" as it were, would be nice to become friendly with them though really, I don't want to sort of compete with others, i just want to give another outlet for people searching for the information to find

That would be awesome :) and very useful. I would certainly welcome that content if you are able to provide it :).
