    Hello there!

I still can't believe that yesterday a dream finally came true. I got my first dev console. It's a HKT-01 devkit which is in a pretty bad shape because it wasn't packed well . The front was ripped off the case (some plastic spacers broke off) , the power button, the rotary switch and the dip switches are literally torn of the circuit board :(

Besides that, the plastic power button is missing.

I plugged the power cable in and managed to turn it on by shorting the leftover power button pins on the pcb using a screwdriver. My TV received a signal (screen turned from Blue to black with some screen distortion), but a black screen was all I got. The hard drive sounded normal, no clicking noises or else

Can someone help me get it to work? I need to know which size, pins and so on the rotary encoder has so that I can replace it. The dip switches are easy to replace.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Kenny

    Hello,

First of all, I would remove the HDD from the devkit, connect it directly to a SCSI card in a pc, and make a full dump of the HDD. Since the devkit is damaged, it's always safer to preserve what's on the HDD first...

Concerning the black screen, this is normal if the devkit is in CPU (debug) mode: cfr http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?50771-Dreamcast-HKT-01-Black-Screen
(you only get to see the "Dreamcast" boot when the devkit is in OS mode.

Concerning the Rotary switch, they talked about a possible replacement here http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...tana-kit-arrived-with-damage&highlight=rotary
(espacially on the last page), I haven't verified/tested it myself.

    Good luck !

Thank you T_Chan. I can't backup the HDD now, because I don't have an old PC with a SCSI port (yet).

I managed it to get it to work by unplugging the HDD and the development board (the cable below the fan which cools the CPU I think). The Devkit works for now in Retail mode, but it is in NTSC mode. Since I live in Europe and only own PAL games, I can't play them (The Devkit recognizes the disc, but says it's a musik disc. The Music player only plays the sound file "Warning, this game runs only on a Dreamcast console).

I will take a look at the link you've posted, thank you for that.

Just to be clear: You don't need an old PC. Any PC with a matching SCSI card should do.
