A couple of months ago i bought an Amiga CD32. I bought it thinking that it would work perfectly on my multi system tv (it handles NTSC, and PAL), But it seems that the tv does not suport european PAL signal. So i get to play the games with normal graphics but no color at all. Recently a friend told me that behind the console, there is a switch to change between NTSC and PAL, but when i switch it, nothing happens, i still get the game without color. My question is, is this swtch (its found next to the RF out) really for changing between PAL and NTSC?, and if so, why cant i get a color image after switching it? Thanks in advance.
I am sure there is a way to get rgb from the CD32, that will solve all your problems instantly.I know there is no switch to switch it between ntsc and pal. There is however NTSC cd32' s available bu quite why antone would want one is beyond me.The games on the system are appaling. It was the biggest waste of 300 quid I made in my life, and it still makes me angry thinking of the peice of grey shite to this day.GRRRRRRR.....
I've not tried it myself, but have heard from reliable sources that it's possible to switch between NTSC & PAL by plugging in an Amiga mouse and holding down both buttons as you turn the machine on. The switch on the back is probably just an RF Ch3/4 selector. @ Nintendomad - I could entirely understand someone not liking the CD32 if they plumped down £300 for it at launch (as one of my friends did), but these days it's a solid option for the modern retrogamer - the machines can be had relatively cheaply, and almost all the games are dirt-cheap. Sure, the CD32-exclusive titles are pretty wank on the whole, but it's got some top-notch Amiga ports, and in my view is worth it purely for the enhanced versions of Chaos Engine & Speedball 2. Top-class Amiga games with minimal loading hassle? Sounds good to me
RGB So, RGB is the way. Thanks Nintendomad, by the way, i feel your pain, i would hate to have paid 300 for the console back on its day, fortunatly, it only costed me 50 dollars 2 months ago, hehe. Thanks for your replies!
Your TV is generally NTSC right? Well, perhaps your switch is not a NTSC/PAL switch but a 50/60hz switch. Maybe you're outputing PAL60 (which would explain the B&W). PAL60 will come in on a NTSC TV but in black and white. PAL50 on a NTSC TV will be black and white and the picture will roll horizontally.
Why don't you just use a RGB cable ? Maybe you could also use one of the old Commodore Amiga monitors. You could also get a SX32 - that's an expansion for the AmigaCD32 which provides VGA output.
