Hello! My childhood-owned SNES (original 1990 SHVC model) has developed black screen syndrome and I was wondering if I could get some advise on how to fix. I know this has been discussed before, but unlike older threads my SNES produces audio. To be specific, when I turn on my SNES through the AV connector I get audio but no video. If I connect my SNES through the RF it plays fine (that is I get both audio and video as expected). I tried with different carts, different TVs, different AV cables, different power adapters, different power outlets and the results are the same. I cleaned both my main board cart connector and my cartridges are squeaky clean too. There are no busted caps (solid type). No signs of leakage. Everything on the board looks fine. I used a multimeter to check for continuity in the pins on the AV connector and the solder points on the motherboard and it passes the test on all pins. Appreciate any ideas you might have.
You mention different AV cables, but have you tested out your Multi-Out port with a different format like S-Video? It's odd that RF still works.
Don't have a TV with S-Video to test. Been thinking about modding a separate composite out or buying a replacement cap kit. @UnrealNStuff There's something wrong of course but have no idea what it could be. Internet recommends replacing the caps. That may be it. I wish I could be sure. The SNES still works, just doesn't do video through the multi out.
I replaced the caps using a kit from console5.com but no success. I still get audio but no video. I am not attached to the console so its no a big deal to me. Still if anyone got any ideas (other than a hammer or a trashcan) feel free to let me know.
I'm sure there would be plenty of people that could use the parts, in case you decide to go with the chuck it in the bin option I hope more you get it fixed though
