    Hi.
I have a fat PS2 (GH023 board) with a internal HDD that have stopped being detected.
Plugged the HDD on a PC, worked fine.
Tried the HDD on the PS2 with an external power supply, worked fine.
Changed PS2 Power supply, didn't work.
Checked the HDD power connector, I'm getting 11.85v at 12v and 4.25v at 5v.
Got the schematics (thanks GillBert!), found a FET that plugs directly to the HDD 5v output.
I get 5.12v o its source, and 4.25v on its drain, I suspect it's deffective.
The transistor is a fdc606p. I cannot find a substitute around nor an equivallent.
Can someone suggest a substitute? It seems pretty generic...
Maybe I can bridge the drain and source, I think I may lost the HDD spindown function, no big deal, but... is it safe? Won't I fry something else?

    Thanks in advance.

    Firstly, welcome to Assemblergames!

It could be your network adaptor actually. There was also somebody else who wrote that his network adaptor caused his HDD to not be detected, while replacing it caused everything to work fine.

On a side note, are you the one on PSX-scene with the same moniker who talked about the same problem?

I found out that the fuses P9 and P10 are broken. I would fix it, but it requires surface mount soldering, which I am not good at yet. Instructions say one needs to buy a 2A fuse. I'm thinking about getting a glass quick blow fuse with holder but I'll wait and see.
It's generally a good idea to leave the hard drive alone for a few hours after using it on the computer. Or you can always FTP.

If you can't find an FDC606P, you haven't looked very hard. Googling it produces results from all the major electronics distributors.

    @sp193 Greetings!! Yes, I'm that guy from PSX-Scene ;-)
I just cannot acces the site right now, so... I'm trying other ways.
I just have no friend nearby that still has a fat with NA, so... no swapping parts for me :-(

@dc16 I tested the fuses and they seem just fine.
In fact, the transistor's source is plugged straight to PS009, while PS010 seems to secure the 12v part of the HDD.

@retro I found the transistor on many distributors, all from other countries, I live in Brazil and the taxes system are just insane :-(
Since I'm not used to buy componnents online, some sites suggestions would come handy, specially it it offers free shipping :)
I've tried Mercadolivre and BomNegócio, very popular shopping sites here and found nothing.

I also got an broken GH026, but no transistor seems to be the same... maybe some similar?
I'll hunt down the schematics, if I'm right guessing, the FET on this board is really bigger, but maybe can made fit someway...

Edit: Found a free shipping on aliexpress, US$ 32.26, but it's a lot of 60 units. It would take about 40 days to arrive and I'm low on cash :-(. The GH026 uses a different transistor, as I though, an irf7328-tr. The circuit doesn't seem to change around the FET. It's a double FET, bigger and it seems a lot more robust. Looks like I'll give this one a try!! Wish me luck!!

I have a broken GH-023 here, I can send you the FET that you need. :) Check your PM.

But first, check the value of resistor RB406 which goes to the FET gate.

    PM Sent!!
    Many thanks to you again!!

    Edit: Problem fixed!!
    It was exactly that transistor!!
After changing it I got the normal tensions on NA.
I'm VERY grateful to you, Gillbert!!
    Many thanks!!
