I wasn't sure where to post this, so Off-topic is where I put it. I recently re-imaged my Harddrive and re-installed my software including Nero. Now I have a problem burning DVD-Rs. When I burn a DVD-R with Nero or even with DVD Decrypter, the dvd-r drive buffer (not hard drive buffer) fluctuates up and down. It's causing my DVDs to burn practically at 1X. Before I re-imaged it would burn 4x or even 8x fine. I didn't change dvd-r media brand either (I'm using the same old 100 stack). I tried messing with the DMA on the DVD-R drive in windows but it didn't help. Anyone have a suggestion? I highly doubt that the burner broke.
Did you by chance run any recent music CD's or install a game that includes the StarForce copy protection malware? Those would be my first targets to check.
Did you use Neros Image back up utility to back up your OS install, etc. onto a DVD? It could be something as simple as fragmented files that need defragmenting. or it could be that when you were re-imaging, there was a write error either on the disc or the HDD that is making your DVD burning so slow. When I burned data onto a DVD on my old D:\ hdd at 8x, it actually did the same thing yours is doing and the HDD was just way too slow than what it used to be. I ended up reformatting the hDD later on and turns out that it had a bad sector that got fixed during the format and after that my DVDs burned just fine.
I didn't install any games or music CDs. I didn't use the Nero image back up. However, I will try defragging the HDD's (two of them) Thanks.
