Help!! I've recently come across a PC Engine (white model) the trouble is it's in bits. It's a model with a PAL oscillator board installed. This board has been removed (and the RF unit also) obviously to try an RGB mod which doesn't work on these machines. What I would like to do is put the pal oscillator board back in to it and get it up and running but I haven't a clue where the wires go to on the motherboard. Does any one have a picture of the wire locations? I have searched the web but I've found only one picture and it's a different PAL mod :sorrow: If you have one of these PAL machines and could post a photo or have a photo I would really appreciate the help. Thanks
Yes, I understand you can get the RGB straight from the chip but I need to suss out how to wire the PAL oscillator board back in first . . .
As you can see the crystal was removed and this PAL board put in place. I think these were fitted in Singapore, not sure though. It's easy to see that the grey wire & diode go to the modulator but the other wires I haven't a clue. The 3 capacitors on the underside are part of this mod also and obviously one of the wires from the oscillator goes to where the three legs are joined. Any ideas? Have you seen this before?
I had a core grafx probably with the alternative PAL mod that you mention. The original oscillator was still inside the console though. I still have the PAL board if you want it? You can have it for cost of postage as its no use to me.
Ideally I'd focus on getting 60hz RGB working first, if your TV is capable. In that case NTSC or PAL encoding are lower priority.
You could try a Sodipeng mod? PC Engine went semi-officially imported into France by a company called Sodipeng (which was really cool) they use to modify most of the consoles to they could work on French TVs, they're essentially RGB mods so you can't really loose out doing this. http://www.otakus-store.net/en/content/14-nec-sodipeng-mod-guide I can see on the tutorial that the oscillator is there though.
