I've been trying to output RGB via SCART for my Super Nintendo for months now (mostly due to a small budget). I've got two Mitsubishi Diamond Scan 20M monitors (both FREE :dance which have two 15 pin inputs and 1 set of 5 BNC inputs. So what I've tried to do is connect the SNES SCART cable to one of those SCART switchers to get audio, and then use an SCART to VGA cable to connect to the monitor. However, it doesn't display anything! I've fooled around quite a bit with the settings on it to see if it was something like that. I know the monitor will support a 15khz sync signal as it is a Multisync/Multiscan monitor from what I've read. So I'm at a loss for what's causing this problem! Can anyone help me? Should I be using the BNC inputs..? It should be noted that the SCART to VGA cable is relatively cheap.
It's the Hsync and Vsync that's the problem here. You'll need a special cable like one of these to combine the composite sync: http://www.keene.co.uk/electronics/words.php?type=all&mycode=SYNCBLASTER&mycat=119&orderby=date desc There's also SCART to VGA boxes that do the trick (and might be cheaper). Some useful info here as well: http://www.tkk.fi/Misc/Electronics/faq/vga2rgb/interfacing.html
Thanks for the links. So I have narrowed down the problem to either the monitor, which is unlikely as I don't see both of them being defunct, or the SCART-VGA cable by testing the switcher box via composite video. So to clarify, the cheaper SCART-VGA cables don't seperate the syncs properly? I had suspected this might happen, but I didn't realize it wouldn't display a picture at all. If I'm gonna be spending the money, where is it better spent at? SCART-VGA or SCART-BNC? Is there a difference is picture quality? EDIT: now I'm more confused. I bought a cable from an Ebay seller, and I know they aren't 100% trustworthy, but when I asked about sync seperation he claimed the cable has the electronics to do so built in. could there be another problem?
SNES -> RGB cable-> seperate H and V sync from RGB in order to get RGBHV -> attach BNC jacks to all 5 video cables -> hook it up to the monitor's BNC input. I noticed you mention EUROSCART, that piece of shit French standard of shame that has given me nightmares for a decade. In my view it would be best if you'd get yourself a "proper" SNES RGB cable and then split the sync from the cable, although i have no idea what sort of wiring or components you'll need. Ask Calpis!
