here are some beta images which have always intrigued me http://www.geocities.com/theghoulrealm2/gng3.png this is one of my favourite games especially for what Capcom pulled off on the SFC/SNES. these are apparently Cho Makaimura beta images (wrongly dubbed super ghouls 'n ghosts 3 I think). interesting to say the least, would love to see what more there was to this work in project. an actual physical beta would be incredible to uncover.
You can see some of those identical pictures on my page here: http://disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/secrets1.html I'm sure EGM got all of their international screenshots from Japanese game magazines for a long time, until they legitimized their thievery with that "World Net" agreement, or whatever it was called.
AWESOME! Thanks for those scans. I'm a huge Mega Man fan and found the part about MM3 to be very fascinating!
excellent stuff. yep those are 2 of the screens. there was 2 or 3 more. game was said to be 80% complete at the time.
*me rescues this thread* with working images and one that had not been posted before ^__^ 'Ghouls And Ghosts 3' for Super Famicom from 1990, a prototype / alpha / early version of ChouMakaiMura aka Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, which was released 1991. this is from EGM Number 17, December 1990, page 48 - thanks to The Ghoul Realm website (r.i.p) _________________________________ larger closer-in images of the same proto, thanks to Chris Covell's awesome website notice the little plant creatures with teeth coming out of the demon towers. the blue vase. the demon-cavemen with clubs, and in the foreground, the wood stump with rope tied around it. all this was missing in Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ here's EGM's first main preview of Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, from the July 1991 issue, when the game seemed more final. notice Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts has changed somewhat from the small December 1990 EGM preview of 'Ghouls N Ghosts 3'.
this post reminded me of the massive online game capcom planned years back for ghouls n ghosts.does anyone know if they actually started that or was it only in the planning stages?
Afaik, the game was cancelled. It had reached some degree of development (the game was being developed by Game Factory), and they showed some screens and characters designs.
some pics of Ghouls 'N Ghosts Online - i'm sure there are more elsewhere. two videos http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/ghoulsnghostsonline/news.html?sid=2912247&mode=all
I played this Ghouls'n Ghosts Online at E3 2004. Looked like a one-week-into-development build. Having guts to show off this demo made it fairly obvious it would never come out.
.......Wow, those beta pics are from 2004? Geezus, I would have guessed E3 2000, which is pretty sad..
it's the truth in my book that arcade DaiMakaiMura ~ Ghouls n Ghosts from 1988 is still the best game in the series, by far. bar none. I long for the Capcom people that created that game, to make another like it. NO POLYGONS please. As decent as Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins on PSP is meant to be (i haven't played it), i crave a complete 2D sprite-driven arcade GnG, one that then gets ported to consoles and/or PSP. I don't really want another one that's originally built-for-the-home as with SNES Super GnG and PSP Ultimate GnG. IMO, usually, there is a huge difference in quality between games that originate in the arcade, and 'arcade-style' game that originate on a home platform.
Keep on longing. I've been saying the same thing for just about all my favorite oldies... knowing damn good and well it will never happen. Looks like 2D games on consoles will be a thing of the past when the PS2 is officially unsupported.
