Maybe this is a silly question, but why is there only 1 cart slot?

There are several versions of the Neo Geo Motherboard, most have in fact just 1 slot. Here is a small FAQ http://www.hardmvs.com/html/MVSfaq.htm
The board used here is an MV-1C, the only 1 slot motherboard with a vertically oriented cart slot.

That's because few people bother to consolize the larger boards. Almost every "mainstream" CMVS is made with a 1 slot. You otherwise have to be patient enough to hold out for someone who can take on custom jobs. Which I'm hoping for myself, they're often busy.

If I had the resources to make a case that nice I'd convert a few.

Thanks for your compliments. Actually it's the only MV-1C system here. These ones weren't imported at that time. Also I haven't seen any other CMVS yet. Maybe someone can build a nice wooden one... I ordered this board from Mexico. Only thing missing is the logos. This is because all the plexiglass sheets were cut by laser, and it's controlled by a computer as you know. It's very hard to find a guy here who was free to cut these sheets for me and the one I found had no Corel/Illustrator on his computer to etch the logos by laser. Everyone is busy and doesn't want to waste time by using the machine with small jobs like mine... If I can find a spare time I will add the logos by masking with folio then paint.
I was inexperienced about Neo Geo and consolizing before this one, many thanks to Romeo(Vogatek) and James (Jamma Nation X) for their helps in my desperate times. I have a better MVS project in my mind now (in blueprint stage). However I am busy about my new Atomiswave now. It will be a different one from the others, I think. I prefered to use a Vogatek supergun to eliminate soldering too much wires and BTW it's quite tidy, easy to remove the board and fix/upgrade it etc.
To make this board working, it took me many hours and I sacrificed another case like this one as a prototype. You can see easily in the photos that its measurements are proportional, cartridge's exterior height isn't too much like others... This is why I chose this MV-1C board, it looks like a console after it's finished.
Thanks again for your ideas and compliments.

    Very nice.

Although it doesn't look consolised, rather supergunised as it were. Subtle (but important imo) difference.

No, you misunderstand me. It was my mistake, basically from the angle of the picture it looked to me like there was only one slot for the cart, as we all know Neo carts contain 2 boards, it was only under much closer inspection that the second board slot became apparent.

Nice little job anyway, always wanted a neatly housed CMVS but lack the skill to do it myself or the money to commission someone else. One day...

Too bad we don't have Scart-RGB here in the states!.

It makes life difficult for us few who do have some ability to use Scart-RGB. I'm quite insistent about wanting that haha. Luckily output port sources like old PS1s are dirt cheap, nobody would miss having one sacrificed for parts.

I am using JS Technology Scart to VGA converter for my Panasonic plasma and it works flawlessly. You can also DIY a sync separator circuit for scart to vga conversion by using LM1881 or EL1883. This is what I am planning for my next project.

    http://www.js-technology.com/store/category.php?id_category=5

I bought mine from ebay.co.uk for 1/3 price!

I haven't used but cga vga converter boards in ebay may also work well.

What kind of mvs converter is that?

What kind of mvs board has the psu onboard?

What kind of shell did you use?

    Looks like a Vogatek supergun.

And the PSU is obviously retrofitted.

Vogatek MK3 (for not to solder on the pcb gold pins)
generic 5V 3A power supply (found it from ebay hk) mounted on the PCB
custom plexiglass design cut by laser (base transparent, rest is black, looks like PS3 surface)
