"If Hiroshi Yamauchi calls, he'll get me on the line right away," was the quote Bill Gates made at a reception after Microsoft's yearly financial analysts' meeting last week.

I know you can file it under not going to happen right now but if Sony captures a large enough chunk of the handheld market that is Nintendo's lifeblood then he might just get that call. After all who would have thought Sega would be owned by a pachinko company.

Prettty doubtful due to the high price of the PSP.

What high price? It's not out yet. Also, It need to be over $350 before it was too high. This obviously isn't a kiddy system.

    ?

You don't really get it. Something aimed at adults can be much more expensive.

Hence why the GBA is £60ish.

You know, in my local Gamestation you can buy new GBA (Standard) for £40 and second hand GBAs with no box for £39.00 . If it wasn't for the Shenmue 2 I got from them I'd hate them ^_^

    ...

$300 US for a handheld console that most likely won't be able to play DivX, MP3's or any half decent widely available media format (currently). You also have to factor in the durability of the thing which will be nill. It looks like it will mostly end up as another toy for gadget freeks who will just buy it to say they have it and that will be it. Look at the N-gage for example.

I'm happy, first, because the more companies there're the more profit we obtain (better prices, more variety...) and second, because I wouldn't like to see Nintendo to lose its own identity.

i don't think that's a bad strategy, selling your console on the cheap. I got a GC first becasue they were selling $70 used ( should have ponied in the extra $20 and got a new one, but I have bill and other evil stuff...)

To the vast majority of the gamming public, anthing over $200 for a console is too much, and $300 for a handheld .... no way. I don't care how cool it is, there is no way I can afford that. So I hope all you early adopters drive the price down quick so I can get one.

If the DS is cheaper, it will sell more at the begining. Psp will catch up once the price drops.
