Hey everyone, after some BS with my video capture equipment I was able to record a lot of old game footage from VHS tapes. For starters, I ripped this old trailer of Resident Evil Zero when it was on the Nintendo 64. To make this brief, the source, as seen in the borders outside the video screen, is from a promotional VHS tape called Capcom E3 Sales Presentation that contains various trailers of Capcom's yearly line-up of games that were announced at that time. Some fan-favorites include Mega Man Legends 2, Onimusha, Power Stone 2, and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. I believe I do own the original VHS source for these trailers that were shown at E3 2000. Be sure to watch it at at least 720p60 on Google Chrome for full effect.

For more details of this video check out my newly, relaunched blog The Game Informant, if you would please. You may also find some info on some magazine scans I made that were about Resident Evil Zero that could be of interest to you too.

I'd hate to ask, but if you guys could subscribe to me blog or subscribe to me on YouTube that would mean a lot to me. I made an announcement of what my plans on for my channel in the coming weeks, take a look.

very nice but just one point. The originals wouldn't have been recorded in 60fps so there's no point upping them to that level.

The game itself? Of course not...

...but the trailer was, so there is a point.

Unless the trailer was on something other than a VHS tape when it was shown, it was not 60 FPS. Assuming it's an NTSC tape, it's only 29.97 FPS.

If it's on VHS it would be 480i at 59.97 fields per second. Depending on how it was mastered, those fields might represent 29.97 full frames per second, or 59.97 distinct fields that don't add up to specific 480-line frames. The most common deinterlacing techniques blend together scanlines though, so they produce a 29.97 FPS deinterlaced image; it is possible to retain full temporal resolution using other techniques (with other tradeoffs).

Either that new footage is some well-preserved archive footage, or Capcom's still got at least a ROM of the first public BioHazard 0 build... this might just be me, but it looks too "clean" to be direct feed of the code running on actual Nintendo 64 hardware, though it's possible we're getting the emulated prototype as bonus content with the upcoming remaster (yeah - as if)!

I think capcom has all builds of RE, but obviously there is a chance that they went the Sega way once or more (Losing source code and etc.)

Its obvious that they are running on an emulator, even if they were capturing on a HD TV, the resolution would be too low for such quality.

Didn't someone here had it? I ve head something that he wanted to release and Capcom went after him, something like that.

While I'm in no doubt that Capcom still has that "last" build of BioHazard 1.5 from the Complete Disc footage, I suspect they've lost either the source code or assets from retail BH2, since it's likely they'd have long since milked this game for a remake or even a less elaborate HD remaster considering how lucrative it remains as a fan favourite. Then again, just look at how long it took Square to take the hint with Final Fantasy VII... we might get a new version of BH2 complete with 1.5 as DLC for the PlayStation 9 once every other possible option to keep the series printing money has been exhausted!

Dunno if they lost it, it think it was cheaper to them to release the same game with a few changes.

Also, Square was skeptical of doing of a FF7 remake, they said that it would took 100 years, I think what they were saying is that they didn't have the workforce available at the time to do this, they were busy with other projects.

I think that REmake was something out of the curve, they have never released any remake after that, they probably did it because of the Nintendo deal and to complement Zero, which was being redone for the GC after they decided to ditch the 64 version.
