    I'm Roubi.
    I'm now 40+.
I've been in video games since 1986.
I've started my collection in 1995. Stopped it by 2004 because of eBay and scarcity.
I had the chance to join the industry and collect rare items among the way.

Assembler has always been a reading joy to me, I was a fervent admirer of the old website.

Life is life and too much things changed for me within the industry and in the collection scene.

I'll soon abandon loots and I hope that you, fervent and passionnate, will find shelves for some of my pieces.

I've recently came up with a non-compliant 120+ GD-Roms post. This is only the beginning of the end for me.

Always available for a chat on any vg related neurosis ;)
Cheers all and keep collecting and diggin'.
    Roubi.

    Don't worry, mistakes happen.
As long as drx is on the job we'll be fine.

Hope you enjoy the stay here!

I wonder how was the video game collecting world 20 years ago. I am only 28yo, and I have started collecting since a bit more than 10 ago. And the ebay thing was already on, spreading unbelievably expensive prices all over the world.

Well, it was pretty much a nerd thing.
Pawn shops were full of NES, SMS, MD, SNES cartridges. $1 each. I remembered weekends chasing MSX at flea markets. Had to stop at some point. Too much of them.
Then bargains at hypermakets by the end of a generation. New sealed DC were sold for €10. Specialists shops collapsed and got ride of stocks. Sealed NES/jaguar/3DO/32X/N64 games for €10.
Then it started to spread. People at flea market were aware of some high prices from eBay, teams began to organize collection of anything related to vg at the earliest hours. Same who resell it on eBay right after.
It was a time when you could visit a toy shop and still find a the back a Nintendo furniture full of games.
Or some sealed Korean coregraphs in a karaoke shops:)

I will. Been there for more than a decade ;)

Things have changed so much in the collection scene. I don't have the money or the will to go on. I've untouched stuff for a while and a few items might excite people who wants to go on so I prefer to release my loot in the wild.

Plus, there's something else. My golden age is SMS/NES/MD/SNES. I never really cared about Intellivision and Coleco. Dream machines were Coregraphx and NeoGeo.

Most of the activity here seems to be driven my PS and Xbox collectors.

I assume that, just like the me of 1996, most of the younger you are not that into SMS or MD or the 90's stuff that came before their gaming youth (apart mint sealed VGA 95+ Nintendo pieces;)). Or maybe it's just because of the price and scarcity.

I'll be interested to know more about that btw.

    Cheers,
    Roubi.

Funny to see how you have been part of this community since '07 yet managed to stay in the shadows. So although you are not new here, welcome to these awesome boards @roubignolo :)! I'm certain many fellow members will find items of interest in your lifeworks collection, me included. I can totally relate to the changes in life and shift in interest, however I'm not going full cold turkey like you do, I will keep the Dream(cast) alive!

The cold turkey will have some special higher prices for you Wombat!
    Kidding:)
I'm even an older reader than that to be fair. I still remember the pain the day I discovered the old html 1.0 Home of the Obscure was gone and replaced by this forum. The original website was a bible at that time.
So yes Wombat, I've been watching you for a long time now, and yes, I hope you'll keep it alive at reasonnable prices (for me).
    Cheers mate.

I'm maybe not the one to say "welcome" as this is my first post, heh. Just joined and will be introducing myself asap.
But good to know I'm not the only new member here through the ages.
I've also been "lurking" in the forums for some years and thought I should just register as I'm genuinly interested in this scene.
So, welcome! Sounds like you've been on a long collecting journey, and I bet this is the place to share your treasure. :)

Sad to hear that you're is giving up your collection, but here it definitely gets cherished by the new next owners. I can't wait to see what you have. Sounds very interesting. I just recently bought plenty dev discs and enjoyed testing them. :)

Don' be sad;). This is is just a small portion of my collection. I keep all the retail/standard stuff and it's big and large and heavy enough to keep me happy.
    Cheers Diablodin.
