Hi to all! I'm a emulator eager :love_heart:, from Italy. This forum is very interesting ... and sorry if I joined. :tranquillity:
I like the emulators too, I was once banned for talking about how I emulated Tatsunoko VS Capcom. The person responsible has since had to be subject to my horrible impression of him to this day. All joking aside though, I've learned, mostly through this forums and my own experence, that nothing is as good as the real hardware and it's more satisfying to collect than emulate.
Truthful ... Slowly I'm going back from emulators to original consoles ... I also use a crt monitor because an LCD is bad with those resolutions. Unfortunately I love also MAME and it is not easy to collect jamma cards.
I like playing on original systems, but without hardware scaling options, it generally looks much better just having my htpc render out at 1080p than hooking up my old consoles :/, I never use sprite filtering though, I like the original pixelated look on nes/genny/snes etc. 3d systems I do prefer hires rendering tho (ie ps1)
I tried the PS2 to Monitor lcd 24'' pivot I turned the game (a shooter) to play it vertically. It 'came out a disaster ... all mixed graphics.
I also prefer playing old games on CRTs looks better for those resolution as you said. Only thing i still emulate is Arcade, but i may just get into Supergun + PCB eventually :topsy_turvy:
I like emulators for the sake of upscaling 16-bit games to 1080p and playing games with wireless controllers. When it comes to real consoles, especially anything pre-PS1/N64/Saturn, I'm still happy with RF. A lot of people hate it, but it makes it all the more nostalgic imo. Nothing like some Virtua Racing or NBA Jam with some good old-fashioned distortion and interference. Welcome to the boards, enjoy your stay!
