I would suggest learning how to spell first.

But in all seriousness, stay in school, study hard, go to college, major in something programming related. Most schools even have some sort of game design course set up nowadays.

My advice is do it as a hobby. Create games for XBLA, iPhone, etc and see if you enjoy it. I spent seven years as a games coder and to be fair the industry in general is one of long hours and lots of pain and you don't always get to work on the AAA titles but more likely some shovelware.

Ya. Install a copy of DevkitPro and start working on some homebrew project for the DS, etc. You'll get an idea as to how you'll like the whole idea.

I concur. I find that you can't just drop into the business without some background work. Develop some games (not necessarily homebrew, just get some games to put in a portfolio), get yourself on Gamasutra, and good luck!

I think the best advice is a combination: go for a degree in Comp. Sci., but also play around with game development at home. Read about the latest trends, learn a programming language or two, and have some fun. (If it isn't fun, maybe it's not the career for you, right?) That, and school projects, can build a good portfolio when you start job hunting.

You used to be able to get jobs fairly easily without any degree or formal training, but the industry has matured a lot, and I wouldn't try that anymore.
