I was bored, so I thought I'd find some new members to give a warm welcome to. I decided the easiest way to do that would be to look at the member list by posts ascending, then I'd find all the 1, 2, 3 posters etc.

I was quite surprised to note a significant amount of 0 posters, some of which date back to March. Mind you, I'm not surprised, as this is when all bar the general forum was locked to those who weren't members. This is quite an effective way to find the lurkers, as this proves.

Just a little bit of a statistics game for ya there. Whilst I of course adopt a "the more the merrier" attitude to the board, I find it a shame that out of 661 members, 38% haven't even posted to say hi. What was the point in registering? Well, like I said, back in the early days, they had to register even to lurk... I'm not sure why this policy got dropped, I personally found it an excellent one! On the other hand, under 10% of members have made more than 100 posts.

I hope we will see a bit more involvement from these 0 posters - they obviously had an interest in what we're about to join in the first place - it would be nice to meet fellow collectors and devvers!

There's quite a few people from DP on there. Funny thing is, some of those people have really high post counts on that board.

Nah, its not a funny thing, its an expected thing.

Like I said, in the past, you had to register to see all but general discussion.

You wanted see the ebay thread? You had to register
You wanted to see what is for sale or sell something? register!
You wanted to see our collections? Register. (good cuz then you can narrow down who steals your pics if that issue ever arises, its not just joe schmo, its a member).

I dunno why this protection was dropped - personally I thought it was a good idea.... and would be a good idea still in light of the recent Acclaim goings on.

The DP people were probably just nosing around, trying to get info (e.g. find out what good auctions are on, what nice things are for sale) with no intention of posting or becoming part of the community. I don't just single them out, just using your example. Sorry if I sound harsh, but I hate lurkers who have no sense of community and sharing.

 

Shroudz, welcome to the board. You've made more effort to post than most of the people I've pointed out above. Sorry to the 1 posters who are genuine newcomers. I hope you all take an active part in the ASSEMblergames.com community - nice having you all on board!

I lurked here for quite a while before posting, for most of those same reasons!

One of the unique things about this board is that there's a very noticeable presence of overseas people, which I think is fantastic! You have mods from different continents as well. There's a very friendly, diverse group of people here.

Same here Dreaming Eye, I post fairly sporadically, if I'm not contributing anything new I tend to refrain, but I do read up on at least 80% of the activity here but am usually too late to add anything worthwhile to the conversations.

They register so they can lurk. The boards are locked to non members, remember....due to llamas...if I recall.

Honestly, I'm not itching for a ton of new members. I shudder at the thought of who might come here each time I see an ASSEMbler link on Gamefaqs. :-D
