Mh I don't quite get it, is he trying to encourage Japanese collectors to pay higher amounts for items on Yahoo so they aren't won by people from abroad? Or why did you call it xenophobia?
Forcing up the prices of 'rare' items to discourage foreigner bids on items (read the mission statement), The clue should be in the title and the subheading.. レアゲームコレクター崩し企画 Rare game collector destruction plan I think the person believes the mentality of the western collector is similar to that of someone in Japan and you can crush their morale (lol) by making a situation where some items are unobtainable to a degree.
That plan sound stupid, lol. I don't get why some Japanese (or Korean also) don't want to sell their stuff to foreign people...
I guess that's rooted in the Japanese culture for a big part. They've always been trying to recycle and resell things as much as possible because of their very limited resources in their own country. The blogger must be one of those Japenese people who don't want to see rare and sought after symbols of Japanese culture (Japanese retro gaming, then) going abroad; like he doesn't like seeing Japan selling off its culture to the mean gaijins. I think he fairly exaggerates the whole thing, although I can understand the initial reason of his fear.
What a total dick. To counter this backwards xenophobic asshole's crusade against the world, I suggest we get millions of people from all over the world to flood Yahoo Jpn and just buy everything in the site. Maybe then he'll commit seppuku over his failure.
I don't actually see anything about foreigners in there. (at least nothing comes up when I searched through it for "gaijin", "kaigai", "gaikoku", etc.) Running it through an online translator, it seems to be more anti-collector than anti-foreigner. Am I wrong?
I had an email from the guy on the site, It seems there's something very lost in translation with what he's trying to accomplish. I'll follow up on it tomorrow but the conotations are still very irregular.
This comment literally just made my day so far. I needed something to make me laugh out loud and that pretty much covered it.
Am I missing something? Because I read that whole mission statement and there's not a single reference to foreigners anywhere, it just says game collectors. I found it funny how that English mail he received, he goes on at first saying that he isn't going to translate it to Japanese and such, only to then respond back to it through a clearly obvious shitty machine translation from JP to ENG.
OK I read it and from what I can tell it has nothing to do about us lot, just collectors (Japanese mainly) in general. No need for the xenophobia attacks. Yakumo
This topic is stupid. Not only was it a bit pretentious to just post it up without even saying it's in Japanese, as if everyone here can read it, but to then go off as if you know what it's saying youself? "Forcing up the prices of 'rare' items to discourage foreigner bids on items (read the mission statement)" I think YOU need to read it. Or actually learn Japanese first before acting like you know what it's saying. Zero xenophobia anywhere. Sorry, this just pisses me off. Use your head before making stupid attacks guy.
Pretentious, Really? Does everything need to come with a disclaimer now? Considering I've contacted the guy him self and exchanged a few emails about certain parts of the site (Which he is now editing as he realised they caused offense and were badly worded) then yes. I'm guilty of over reacting and I appologise but you need to read the other blog site linked to understand where the confusion came from as the guy admits himself the concept is radical and aludes the foreigner bid is part of the problem. Anyway I've asked for the topic to be deleted as its not worth having a slanging match over.
