  1. Welcome to the ASSEMblergames Highscore Competition #1. The game to be played for this round is the arcade classic Ms. Pac-Man.

The competition will last five days, beginning at 11:25pm PST (GMT-8) Friday and going to 11:25pm on Wednesday. The object is obviously to score as high as possible in the given time.

You will need to either aquire the ROM image for the game, or support your local arcade if they have a Ms. Pac-Man machine. Please make sure the board in the machine is the original Ms. Pac-Man, and not one of the many speed variations or hacks. For emulating users, please make sure your romset goes under the name 'mspacman'.

DIP switch settings are to be as follows:
    Lives: 3
    Bonus Life: 10000
    Game Mode: Normal
Cabinet may be in upright or cocktail mode.
Coin mode settings are irrelevant to this competition
All other options must be DISABLED.

Please take a screenshot (press the PrintScreen key, paste into your favorite image editing app) to post along with your score. Please crop and resize the image to a REASONABLE size (400 pixels high will do, 250 is the smallest allowed height) that still clearly shows your score. Also, please post your score seperately in the same post, and post the level you were on as well. If you score higher than your previous post while the contest is still running, please edit your original post and replace the screenshot/score details - this will help keep the thread from getting too bloated. Pictures can be hosted at http://www.imageshack.us if you have no other means of doing so.

While I would expect nobody to be juvenile enough to attempt to cheat, please note that Ms. Pac-Man is a game with set scoring amounts; there are way to tell if you've cheated.

That said, let the contest begin, and have fun!

If for any reason you are having trouble getting the game up and running, please PM me for help.

  2. The fifth level is killing me. :smt096 I've almost got my form back - one ghost away from perfect score on level 1, 2 or 3 ghosts away on level 2.
    42380 points.
    5th level.

I am terrible at everything Pac-man. The last time I played a game was a year ago - the cruise ship I was on had a Galaga/Ms. Pac Man machine, and I was rather bored of Galaga.

I think you should extend the time a tad, I'll only have 1 day to play ;)

What about daylight savings time!? The clocks just went forward an hour last night... well in GMT land anyway...

  6. Seeing as it's been up for about a day and a half, and I'm the only one who's posted any sort of score so far, I don't think the masses are going to be gypped out of an hour of playtime...

And Daylight Savings doesn't begin here until the 3rd.

I recommend MAME32 Plus! - it's got a GUI (unlike normal MAME, which you have to run through the command prompt) and some other nice fancy things. Get it here:

    http://mameplus.emu-france.com/

I don't think we're allowed to give links to ROMs, but Ms. Pacman should be easy enough to find. I don't think the ROM has changed in a while either - it's often an issue with MAME that they change the ROMs after they find better dumps or improve the emulation, and a lot of websites (especially the free ones) tend to not update their ROMs.

Oh, and I suck at Ms. Pacman! I can barely get 10,000 points! I think I'll need more practice...
