Lol what a cheeky seller. I have both regular Hi Sats and never spotted true transparancies. I own 2 navis as well but have only ever used them with their respective screens...you get the mesh effect on these (quite bizarrely I tested out my spare navi with Nights just the other week) I'll try one on the TV tonight just in case lol.
Thanks very much for the info mate. It would be heaven to get back to true RGB for my older consoles. Yep, as a Brit I was disgusted with the quality of NTSC not only in games (F*ing composite everywhere !) but also in the actual image from analogue TV. Awful compared to the stuff we have in Europe. Yakumo
Oh, wow man thats awesome. I would love to even have 1 Navi saturn. Are your units complete with the screen and gps device?
Going from PAL -> NTSC makes the resolution drop noticeable, but going from NTSC -> PAL is just as bad due to the lower framerate. After you get used to watching NTSC the flicker on PAL is quite annoying. -hl718
"Proper" RGB usually has 5 lines actually (R, G, B, H, V). Though if you mash up the sync signals or do sync-on-green you can get that down. That said, it's worth pointing out for those that might not know, component is -NOT- RGB. -hl718
Being in the US, I've thought about buying a European AV reciever that has scart input to HDMI output or purchasing a Scart to HDMI converter box. One of the things that has detered me is the fact that component supposedly equals scart with less bandwidth, although most consoles require a mod to get component. Am I crazy or is this a halfway decent idea to get better video quality from old consoles?
ummm... isn't RGBVH is what we use to connect our computer monitor? I have PDP with RGBVH input and I use the splitter cable to hook up my notebook's VGA port to display...
RGBHV is like VGA, right? Can't remember for sure and it's outside of my sphere of interest. I think I remember seeing RGBS on older monitors, too. S taken from composite? Wish I remembered this stuff better. EDIT: Snap! 1 minute apart
Component is not sync-on-green. RGBHV is simply: Red, Green, Blue, H-Sync, V-Sync RGBS is: Red, Green, Blue, Composite Sync (C-Sync) Sync-on-Green RGB puts the C-Sync signal on the Green colour line, but still sends separate Red, Green and Blue signals. And Component is either YPbPr or YCbCr depending on implementation. You can't have YPrCr. -hl718
Beware! Scart does not equal RGB! A scart plug can carry sound (stereo) and video (Composite, S-VHS and RGB) information, some of it both ways to allow recording and viewing at the same time. Most appliances that have a scart in and a higher quality out will only take the composite signal and forward it, because they are mainly meant to be used with a video recorder - and most of those will only record composite. Check out the pinouts at www.gamesx.com for your RGB needs. If you don´t have the spare room, use an old Commodore Amiga monitor to connect your consoles, they look really sharp and vivid when using RGB. A mate of mine connected his Xbox to my old monnie - beautiful picture, better than my Sony Wega
Yeah, both have screen and GPS..just no tuner. One set is fully boxed/as new, the other not so boxed/new.
You do know that even the NES features "transparency" right? Transparent graphics are all over. Why do people always mix up transparency with translucency or alpha/color blending?
I never grasped the concept of HiSaturn Navi. Who the fuck would use a console to navigate himself around Japan if portability is the key word?!
In the car. It's mean to be used in the car. Mom and Dad use it for navigation. Kids use it for games. Why do you find cars with DVD players in em these days? -hl718
I ve got a picture of it in the car, and it doesn't sit nicely. It's a safety hazard for kids and adults!
Just about all of my research on the HiSaturns and V-Saturns has been done on Japanese websites, and I've never run across a claim like this. The only difference I've ever seen listed for the consoles was that the HiSaturn was sold in department stores with the video card and presented as a more upscale multi-media machine (for a higher price since the card was included). But I've never seen any Japanese website claim better quality, althought I've never gone looking for the specific information.
