Here's a Nice Article that put some interesting similarities and diferencies between the xbox 360 and the now defunct, Zombie-esque Dreamcast.

    history Repeating itself... Or not?

I Personally think it won't, but it's still quite interesting.

I think the biggest difference is Sega back then (and still is) mainly run from it's Japanese division.

A lot of NA-based developers have stated that dealing with Microsoft is fantastic because they are "just around the corner" and others have even said "they speak our language if we need help"

It might seem like a small deal to some given Sony and Nintendo's combined marketshare, but the 360 will do very well again in North America, because they'll have a lot of North American exclusive games that wouldn't do well in Japan either.

Another reason not cited by the article is the reported ease-of-use of the 360. iD was recently quoted that they are staying with the 360 because they like the design of the system and the PS3 "being 20% more powerful doesn't matter if it's 20% harder to develop on".

Coincidence indeed. But Microsoft has something Sega didn't, and that's money and a political arm.

also sega banked on a bunch of arcade ports...arcades aren't popular for a reason here. The old model of "hey, I have a high score now you play friend" is dead..at least in america.

I still love high score competitions! Nothing like challenge between friends, I have been playing espgaluda against the same guy in england for at least a year. Each pushing the other further and further. Its great fun and still very much alive in Japan, where you have to remember was where Sega's primary focus was, and no bad thing, as it has given us the games we love today. Shame gaming trends in Japan and america are ever more disperate, long term, the gap can only increase really.

Er, you meant these, hehe?: :noooo:, :crying:, :banghead:

Microsoft definately has the money! The whole Windows derivce OS thing in the Dreamcast was to me a waste. Not many games to my knowledge used its potential.

Well, the Xbox pad really looks born from the DC pad, so why the DC pad is bad?
