It's not that simple - the current ASSEMbler knows when his time is up, and he searches for his successor through a number of rather unique tests. I wouldn't be surprised if, in fact, Kevin isn't scouring the earth, looking for the kid who, in a few years, will become the next ASSEMbler. In what form this forum shall exist, or even this earth shall live, nobody knows yet. Upon the retirement of the ASSEMbler and consultation with the mystic oracles of gaming in Japan, the search for the next ASSEMbler, the great Administrator, is conducted. Traditionally it has been the responsibility of the High Lamas of the old Tradition and some selected moderators to find his reincarnation. The process can take around two or three years to identify the new ASSEMbler, and for the 4th, our current ASSEMbler, it was four years before he was found on a BBS. Now you've gone and told everyone the secret - and you shall receive your comeuppance from the hidden ones. Are you not afraid now that they all know the truth?
:lol::lol::lol::lol: Duuude, you really made me laugh with that one!!!!!!! Wasn't gamesncrap.com PhrequencyViii's site? Haha! In a few years we should start a secret ASSEMbler lodge with yearly meetings at some obscure underground arcade, so then our children will join and eventually take our place :katamari: , if this were to happen, I can imagine Kevin as a kind of Mr.House from FO New Vegas being the sole survivor of our generation of assembler's (crazy shit, should get some sleep now)
Interesting, I didn't know everything started on BBS. I was 12 in 1994, which was right about the time my interest in video games and computers were reaching their peek. It wasn't until around the death the Dremcast that I stumbled upon one of the older sites and only signed up a few years ago after lurking or a long time. Will there be any kind of celebration for ASSEMblergames' 20th year in 2014?
Very interesting thread, especially cool to see the links via the wayback machine. Wish I would have stumbled across this site back then.
Wildcat BBS..... What a blast from the past! In 1994 I was 9. My folks wouldn't give me a computer and modem in my room until 1996. I know the Internet was accelerating in popularity by then (we had an account with OzEmail which cost $5/hour to connect) but I wasn't entrusted with it yet, so I hit the BBS scene pretty hard. A lot of BBSes in Australia ran EZYcom, due to the ease of setup, but I remember there being a few hosts running Wildcat. I didn't find Assembler until earlier this year, when one of my friends over at VOGONS told me about it. It didn't take long to feel welcome here. It's an awesome place.
1994? So this name was just taking off when I was playing Sonic 3 and watching GamesMaster on British television, I never would have thought it. 20 year aniversary next year then, quite a milestone for a site like this, almost as big as some of the most influential video game series around.
Damn and here I thought I been on this site far too long, 1994? that's crazy son. I found the place while looking for info on rare SEGA consoles. The museum had the best pics at the time by far, the rest of the web was full of the same shitty blurry mag scan some guy did in 1995 and everybody keep copypasta-ing all over the place. I lurked the museum for a long time until I decided to join the forums.
