I play Guitar Hero 3 non-stop on this thing. I recently started playing GTA IV, so did my brother *sigh*. Well he moved the console while it was on and 'ringed' my disc, so he paid for a new one. I just got the new disc today and I was really enjoying it, all of a sudden out of nowhere (halfway through a mission mind you) it threw up a 'Disc is Unreadble' error. Thought it was strange - cleared the cache, took out the HDD.etc (all the standard 'troubleshooting' bullshit) and it worked for a bit. Played through that mission again, onto the next one. Error. COD4, Error. Orange Box, Wouldn't read. Guitar Hero (retail), Perfect. Between GTA IV getting ringed and getting the new disc, GH was all that was played on it. Now it doesn't read anything BUT GH. Is there some relation between the laser 'ringing' the disc and the console not reading discs now? As we all know it is the laser the scratches the disc. Could the laser have been damaged too? I ask this because if this is the case I'm not paying for a new laser/disc drive. Note: My 79k is flashed, IE: No warranty (even though the sticker is in-tact) Edit: Crap, just realised this is probably in the wrong section.
How do I go about doing that? I don't feel comfortable messing around with my only working 360. If it was anyone elses I wouldn't have a problem I might just get the guy that flashed it to take a look, I see him regularly so it shouldn't be a problem. Meanwhile: My brother is acting guilty as shit, is it a possibility that the console could have been knocked over and somehow put the laser out of say, alignment?
As it doesn't work, you have less to worry about! It's straight forward. The only hard part is making sure that you don't damage the rear of the casing. Once in, the DVDrom is removed easily, the lid comes off simply.
Its probably just plastic dust on the laser lens and will be fixed by clearning If youre really unlucky the laser lens may have been damaged when it ringed the disk and that really sucks good luck
