I was walking up the main shopping street in Glasgow and HMV were clearly in the throws of replacing or offloading their Xbox 360 cabinets. I was stunned as the white van was unmanned, the back was open and 5 (yes 5) cabinets fully equipped with Samsung LCD and 360 units were standing without any security (not even one of the HMV staff) in the rain! MS if you are wondering WHY your cabinets no longer work, I think this might be your answer!
I was SSSSSSOOOOOOO tempted, but imagine the weight in one of those things plus a security guard or two chasing you down Argyll St. Glasweigan security staff are not known for their polite conversation. I'd have been pummelled like a steak before frying!
Interesting. I wonder if MS are upgrading the displays in preparation for a counter offensive for the PS3 launch?
This could mean that the HDMI console may be true after all because there has been rumors on the internet that MS are planning a release for late April/early May so this could be what we have been waiting for
i don't think they'll need more than one good game as a counter offensive for the PS3 launch...a big electronic market here offered PS3 pre-orders. they got 8 now, in 6 months. we had over 300 for the PS2...*cough*
I was in glasgow the other day for work and had the chance to walk up and down sauchiehall street (which I assumed was the main shopping street because it was so bloody long...) I have to say, that apart from a game and a gamestation I didn't see and gaming shops worth talking about. Are there any good retro / import shops in glasgow?
There is always Geforce. Not the greatest for value, but they sometimes have some really nice import stuff. Its just up from the Gamestation on Union Street (I believe).
The main shopping street in Glasgow is Argyll Street, or if you are looking for clothes then it's Buchanan Street (bottom end of Sauchiehall Street). Sauchiehall street USED to be the main shopping area, but that changed about 10 / 15 years ago. There are very few decent stores for gaming to be honest. The main one is GeForce on Union Street (just outside Central Station). I just noticed I am repeating the information provided by Deathcoaster, but I second his information! Then again, you should always check Gametex which is out by Anderston. It mascarades as a simple repair shop, but between the 2 stores (one in the infamous Barra Markets is only open Saturday & Sunday) they sell a huge amount of interesting stuff and are very helpful.
Thanks - I'll look out for those if I go back - wouldn't you know it I actually wandered around the station, but didn't see much appart from about 60 chip shops and a dodgy tatoo parlour
Only 60 chip shops? You must be mistaken! In Norwich you have a church on every corner, in Edinburgh a pub every 3 steps and in Glasgow 1 chip shop per person. h: Not sure which dodgy tat parlour you meant? Is that the one under the "Highland Man's Umbrella"? Funnily enough that part of Glasgow is becoming a bit like Cockburn Street in Edinburgh. As the Cathouse is just around the corner all the local kids congregate inside the station and the shops cater for their weirdy tastes. Next time, stand outside the tat parlour, turn around so you are facing ACROSS the road and seek out "Missing". It's a really cheap second hand record store (filled from ceiling to floor with fairly decent music) where they have a no shit policy. Don't go in looking for Celine Dion! They also have a small second hand games section. They stick to Xbox, PS2, GC and 360 and sometimes they are a bit pricey but they know bugger all about games and therefore when the odd classic or rare title finds its way onto their shelves they are priced reasonably. After you'd done your shopping in Glasgow, almost right next door to Missing is "The Arches", which is not only my favourite club, but it has a great bar / restaurant downstairs. An alternative to the chip shops.
