I am due to fly out within 24hrs to London. Here was me worrying about the London end: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/6257194.stm
Your not alone im due to fly tomorrow but luckily from leeds bradford airport. God help the terrorist who trys to fuck with my holiday. Expect security to be mega tight.
I am wondering whether my flight will either be suspended or delayed now as I was due to leave Glasgow airport at 7am. Unconfirmed reports from a doctor states casualties. Eyewitness reports having seen the passenger with a petrol bomb in his hand, the jeep was deliberately driven at speed directly into the entrance of the airport and even when the car caught fire the driver was trying to get the vehicle through the doors. This is the second time I have been due to fly an internal flight within 24hrs of a terrorist attack. I'm going to stop booking flights! OH:
Dont get too excited LOL, i wish it was Japan but i can't afford that yet (^_^) Going to stop with my friend for a week in Paris, theres enough japanese resteraunts & retro games shops there to keep me occupied plus theres the wonderful city of paris to explore including the amazing catacombs that are under the streets.
If you are flying out, it looks like you can expect massive delays - it's just been announced that the UK is now at "Critical" level, which suggests other attacks are highly likely. As stated before, that means security will be up and I suspect those flight restrictions might be evoked again. Long queues whilst we have to decant everything into clear plastic bags.
I know its a good thing, but these are some poorly executed terror attacks. It`s like the attack today only happened because someone heard on the news using vehicles as weapons was the most likely threat the country were facing.
It is a clear indication that instead of highly orchestrated and high level attacks, that smaller more immediate attacks such as we've seen in Iraq are now coming to European cities. More attacks, smaller events, but more worrying. All it really takes is a couple of determined people with a car full of fuel and gas canisters to cause widespread panic and damage. Frankly it is surprising that nobody was killed, however it just takes one of these events to be relatively successful in the attackers mind for it to become a blue print for future attacks. This is a very significant shift if this found to be a terrorist attack and not just an isolated copycat type of situation (unlikely). Its akin to early IRA or ETA attacks and you are probably aware of how that panned out.
its terrible that the UK has beenput to "Critical" level lets hope nothing serious happens and everything gets back to normal
Well checked the news site only 2 airports have delays. Luckily mine isnt one one the list. But i can imagine security will be stepped up to max levels which i don't mind at all as its for our own safety.
I dont want to sound like a conspiracy nut, but isnt kinda weird that the UK gets these almost-attacks right after the arrival of a new PM that wants to continue the war in Iraq even when its highly unpopular in the country? Dunno, its too many "coincidences" to me...
Absolutely no coincedence mate. It's also the busiest weekend of the year for Glasgow airport as this is the first weekend of the summer holidays. The Queen is in Edinburgh, Scottish Parliament suspended session today and tomorrow you have the massive Diana Memorial concert in London. It's actually a very bad weekend for this shit to be kicking off. It seems a very deliberate attempt to convey a message to the incoming Prime Minister. Strathclyde Police have announced that one of the men arrested was found to have a suspect device attached to him on arrival at hospital. They had to evacuate the hospital in Paisley. Clearly, what seems an almost attack was meant to have been a far more significant attack. Had they succeeded they'd have plowed into a very busy airport terminal and killed tens of people, if not hundreds. It really doesn't look like I am going to be flying from Glasgow on Monday morning.
if any more serious attacks had been planned these failures would make the perpetrators think twice about executing in the next few weeks as elevated threat levels and increased police presence would make it near impossible. Then again if it`s a suicide mission getting away isnt an issue and would cause even more chaos as the public would like to think the police and security agencies/services are now on top the situation. It`s a shame your flight may be have to be postponed parris, the problem is we will all feel the fallout of these attacks which were foiled in increased security checks and police presence aswell as more talk on the television of leads and vigilance. I believe we are definitely going to see more of these attacks in the near future i`m afraid, the security services can`t hear the thoughts people have (at the moment lol). If as Parris has said it is as easy as loading a car or the like and then going out and commiting a terrorist attack with in hours there is nothing that can stop them.
I heard about this on the radio, apparently the police handcuffed one of the men while he was still on fire! This is most distressing, I hope it's calmed down by the end of the SUmmer, as I'm flying from GLA to the 'States.
Unfortunately, you sound like a conspiracy nut. Did you guys read that one of the cars in London was TOWED to a car pound and left there before they noticed it was rigged up as a bomb?!
