so i just saw avgn play hong kong 97 its about jackie chen relative named chin has to kill all 1.2 billion ugly reds and in the game china has a plan to bring back the dead tong chav ping and make him an ultimate weapon. This game is like wtf is this and it was so bad no one would even sell it and no one has ever found a physical copy of the game here the link for the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_aXcH1zDEE you must watch it is so funny
I don't know where you find AVGN that annoying. He's been doing the nerd videos for more than 10 years now. He made me aware of this game. This game is definetly a holy grail of gaming. To be honest, I would actually rather have this, than a NWC 1990 cart. EDIT: Maybe this game is just a hoax that was made in 1997, they just made us think it was released in 1995.
AVGN will be hilarious one second and absurdly obnoxious the next. I watched though all of his videos a while ago and he just seemed to get a bit more gimmicky with his profanity and crudeness as he went on. Although I will credit him on this because I had no idea about the game either.
It's not even a game. It's a homebrew done to by those angry with China's takeover of HK at the time.
It was probably an unlicensed game (no way Nintendo allows that on the SFC), so you're both kinda right? Anyway the term "worst game ever" means so many different things. At least something like Big Rigs was made by a game company that made more than one title (and was published by Activision)
More than 10? Are you a time traveller? He didn't start posting them online until 2006, with the first two being made in 2004. Unless you're one of his friends, in which case, we'll have to lock you up and torture you for info. But seriously, I love the Angry Video Game Nerd. I believe I found James' videos in 2007, maybe 2008, and they got me into retro gaming. Plus, they're informative (although I really want some more of those console reviews, because he sometimes overloads them with interesting information). I don't know about obnoxious, but I can understand what you mean about his crudeness being gimmicky. However, I think there's a good reason for it, and not just to make it gimmicky. Look at something like the Godzilla episode - it works because of his profanity-filled dialogue. That's the thing that James Rolfe seems to have, for the most part, been able to do that others haven't - he's found a reason to work in the profanity, from creating emotion (even if that's "guy who has temper tantrum") to cleverly joining scenes together. In fact, that's the word I'd use for him: clever. James is a very talented director, in my opinion. That guy can totally make good films. The amount of references he packs into his videos is crazy enough, but when you pay attention to how he links certain scenes together, you start to notice that he has a real talent for his craft. He's honestly an inspiration to me, as someone who wants to be a film-maker, and he's living proof that anyone with enough passion can succeed in the film industry, even if you're only playing on the indie field. Also, I'm going to go on record to say that I loved the movie so very much. It gets a lot of hate and complaints, which I think is stupid. It's not an AMAZING movie, but it's not meant to be. It's meant to be reminiscent of a B-movie, except that it's so much more. What he managed to pull off with that budget should be illegal. It impressed me a lot. I'm also a sucker for practical effects and miniatures (and monster movies), so I guess it's not surprising that I like it. Anyway, Hong Kong 97 is weird. I liked the whole conspiracy theory angle of the video (which he has done before with Super Mario Bros. 3, but I liked that this one had a simple yet effective conclusion). These sort of things are what I'm interesting in knowing more about, though. Even if it was unlicensed, that doesn't mean it couldn't be sold. I'm really curious to know if any carts were ever produced, and if so, wouldn't they need a pass-through to run, like Super Noah's Ark 3D? I presume they hadn't reproduced any lockout chips at that point, nor made SuperCICs. I could be wrong.
I enjoyed AVGN's new episode but I find it stupid when he was surprised that a SNES game has f-bomb. It's like he didn't even knew that Hong Kong '97 is a bootleg game.
My thoughts exactly! And the fact he's getting people to believe this was a legitimate released game but Japan Only -_- smdh and it really shows how much James was misinformed about the ad part when it said to bring in "floppies" and he thought it was a typo error! lmao!
It has probably the funniest intro ever, just thinking about it makes me laugh. Can't believe I have to explain this, but...it was a dick joke.
I had heard and seen vids of the game before AVGN done it, but i still love AVGN. Good to see some new material from him, although 'James and Mike Play' is quite enjoyable to watch sometimes too
Are you sure about that? From what I can remember this was a copier only release. Like Yakumo, I too remember playing it back in the day on a copier and not a physical cartridge.
