used to be that I just did it through S-video and it always looked good through S-video. But now that I have a Framemiester S-video is going to be a secondary connection. I'm probably going to get a VGA Cable.

Problem: As you are all well aware Framemiester has no VGA port. SO what am I to do? VGA to HDMI adapter? VGA To component, then component to D-Terminal? VGA to DVI and split the audio?

I'm lost. How do you guys do it?

    This only confused me more.

I have a VGA Cable put away and some audio cables. I have a shitty S-video cable. So I'm kind of there, but I play A LOT of Dreamcast so I want everything looking it's best. Advice is needed.

Does your TV have a VGA port? If so, you could just use that. Otherwise, you should use a VGA to HDMI or a VGA to DVI converter. You can get used VGA to DVI converters for pretty cheap. Converting to component isn't a good idea; you'll lose quality that way.

Alternatively, you could get a 13" CRT computer monitor and use that for Dreamcast.

Ebay did find me some decent S-video cables, but the Akura does seem like it suits my needs. I'll keep an Eye.

Why not get a dreamcast RGB jp21 cable and settle for 15khz RGB. This would probably be the cheapest option. It would be a shame to shell out for more expensive upscalers when u already have one of the best.

There is mention of getting 31khz RGBHV through a custom scart cable by combining the HV sync.

The issue I've heard with using the RGB cables is certain games disable that functionality. Several Capcom games included I believe.

But I guess if you modified or had a switch on your cable you could switch between 15khz and 31khz if you were using the XRGB which I think can handle both. But if you are using a 15khz monitor, S-Video is your best shot for 100% compatibility. Otherwise you'll have to switch between S-Video and RGB depending on the game being played. Or run patched CD-Rs. Although maybe if you're lucky some kind of boot disc or cheat disc could enable 15khz RGB on games that don't allow it?

I thought it was only 31khz RGB that some games had an issue with. I think 15khz RGB is ok. A decent cable will ground pin 6 internally for RGB so no switch will be needed if the OP is happy with 15khz RGB. I think this will be the best quality/ most compatible option. If the OP decides to go down the vga route, he will have to work around incompatible games as well as the added cost.

JP21 cables aren't exactly super easy to find either. I could find one for the Mega Drive, Super Famicom, PS1 and Saturn 3 of which from Solaris Japan. But Dreamcast JP21 cables don't exactly grow on the JP21 SCART RGB Tree.

As for working around VGA, Note that the subject has Dreamcast(s) I actually have 2 that I use. One is a launch model I use for CD-Rs as it has trouble reading GD Roms in the condition it's in, and the other is a Sega Sports model that I use for GD Roms and SOME burnt games. I have a 3rd I need to fix as it just turns on to a black screen. SO I can always have one going in through S-Video and the other through VGA. I do have S-video cables but they're the common and super Shitty Innovation cables, I've had 2 of them and both have a problem with the Mono plug having to be in just right way.

I've gotten good results with S-Video on the Super Famicom and OK results with the N64. But Dreamcast, I want looking the best it can. I dumped so much money into Dreamcast ownership it SHOULD look the best it can.

Most people use the Toro it seems. Unfortunately with the Dreamcast there is no inexpensive good option for connecting to modern TV's at the moment.

Honestly I have the cheap black VGA cables for the Dreamcast (there's like 6000 of them on eBay right now, I don't think there's a difference) and they look great. Of course I'm lucky that I have a TV that takes VGA natively.

I'm using the shitty S-video cables, and I have 2 settings one with scanlines for games that look weird without them and an HD setting which as of right now, I'm only using for Hydro Thunder.

Holy shit balls does Hydro Thunder look amazing through a Framemiester at 1080p.

i was thinkin of gettin a kuro and only set it to rgb mode, all games (including non vga compatible games) should play without the boot switch trick right? i know that there are a few non rgb compatible games that will need to be patched still

The Kuro, Toro and Akura all look nice. If u are only planning on using it for RGB scart, just buy a decent dreamcast RGB cable as all dreamcast games should be compatible. The Kuro is useful if u want to run VGA/ RGBS to your Tv (if it supports it). Otherwise if u want 480p over hdmi with scanlines, look at the Akura.
