Just wondering what wire everyone is using for modding and general electronic work? I'll be installing an RGB Bypass board into a Mega Drive soon and also need some good wire for other stuff like arduino nano boards, Modchips, region toggles etc etc.

I have some 30AWG Kynar that I got with a PSOne modchip which was fine for that purpose as it's so tiny, however it's a little too small for other stuff like Sega Mega Drive mods.

There's gauge to consider, stranded/solid, core sizes themselves....then the thing that's really confusing me is the insulation type...(PVC, PTFE, PVDF etc etc). PVC seems to be the most common/cheapest but also melts really easily and is toxic when burned.

Would love to get a discussion going on the pros/cons of different wire types...if anyone is Ireland/UK/Europe base and knows good places to order it from it'd be great to know.

you can get pvdf (kynar) in 24 or 26 awg. i bought some off an ebay seller a couple years ago that had 100ft each of 8 colors for only about $50. they have been sold out for a while unfortunately. It is what i mainly use for mods. if you dont care about using different colors, you should be able to pick up a roll that doesn't cost too much. here is an example:

Cool thanks, there's an Irish Digikey website too, so the prices are reasonable enough. That Kynar stuff you linked to is solid core 24/26 AWG. Would you recommend that over stranded for various console mods?

Edit: What do you think of this stuff, it's Adafruit stranded 26AWG with silicone insulation. Sold in 25' rolls which is ideal, only €4.45 : http://www.digikey.ie/product-detail/en/adafruit-industries-llc/2513/1528-1645-ND/5975011

I like Teflon wire. The heat won't melt the insulation. And it's multi strand so it's less likely to break like solid core kynar

It comes in very sizes and colors
