against what kind of "file sharing" includes this prevention? talking of torrents? they just mentioned about music and software. so what about movies?
Winny? I hought the Japanese all used WINMX. I know I did for japanese stuff before using a router to get the Wii on line. Now I use SoulSeek for music and anything else (No software mind you) comes via BT downloads. Yakumo
Yeah Winny has been dying for several years, ever after the author was arrested in like... 2003?! Winny is full of auto installing worms and similar, several security flaws have been reported. Those still using it are not very smart to begin with. And yes most Japanese use private ftps or semi-private opennap/winmx networks, usually with specialized clients (like utatane) on a trade-only base. I don't think this means much, if anything at all since Winny has been dead for so long already.
Wow, I can't imagine something like that happening... Here, even in shops, if you look at the counter's computer screen, they usually have eMule in the task bar (and unless it's a branded computer, pirated Windows too).
Lol yeah, I was talking about here.. XD Anyway, japanese people dunno why but, they don't seem the ones that would be pirating stuff all day. Don't ask me why. :110:
Why would you use IRC anyway? It's not like DCC works very well (if at all...). Torrents are easier and don't they have some nice encryption ability (which defeats the checking that the ISP in Australia do). Anyway I am sure in some made up statistics which are close to the truth that 99.5% of all torrents are of illegal material anyway.
xserv makes dcc work well and support resume, even! one of the best way to dl things IMHO... sadly they started to ban people with servers on... i misss the good old times of... !list
It does if you know how to use it. The point being, IRC is not user friendly in the least, thus, the least likely to be monitored. Even in the US, RIAA never went after IRC or Newsgroup downloads... the last "wild west" sectors of the internet. Without a doubt. The way the article is worded (Which is translated from Japanese, I'm sure, so could have some inaccuracies in it) sounds to me like it's some honor-based system, and if you're going to complete pound your ISP with downloads AND uploads, you're going to be stopped. I buy all my music, mainly from emusic. I generally don't download movies as the quality sucks (or they're DVD rips, at which point I can buy the DVDs) but TV shows...well... I want to be up to date. An ex-colleague's husband works for my ISP. I need to take him out for a beer and get the scoop.
