Because that's all you are going to get with ANY current set-up: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/ati_nvidia_hdcp_support/ Your current PC is obsolete. The PS3's Blu-Ray and the possible HD-DVD Xbox 360 add-on will be worthless as well unless your current HDTV supports HDCP. Bow to your new Hollywood masters
I only buy a new comp once every 4-5 years. It would take something alot better then high-def movies to make me break that cycle. But thankfuly, like Assembler said, an exploit to get arround this 'issue' should be out within a few months of the first movies that use this tech comming out.
Sounds to me like a lame attempt to make us all upgrade, first Halo 2 only Vista compatible, :banghead:, what's so special about Vista, I really saw the added value moving from 98 to XP, I have yet to be presented with the the proof that Vista is worth buying since it has been stripped out of all its innovations. I renew my mobo + CPU every 18 months or so, but I am not prepared to trow my dual 17" TFT set up out of the window, come on even Apple Quicktime let's you watch HD content on current gen PCs. Copy protection is worthless and we bare the cost of the protection on top of that. I'm the likes of DVD Jon are thrilled to get their hands on Bluray on hd-dvd to crack it, there are always work around it's a lost battle. HDTV is quite exciting, it looks good, I love movies myself and was impressed by the quantum leap that DVD was compared to VHS. But this time you need to renew everything TV + DVD player I guess PS3 would not be a bad idea in the end like the PS2 in its own time. Sabre
