Hopefully going to Japan through the air force in a few years...a few question

I am going to try and live in Japan for a few years after I am commissioned as an officer into the US Air Force.

I was wondering what the opinion of military people are there. Unfortunately in this age of tyrant republican presidents, I fear that it's not as good as it could be.

The only air force base I have been to is the one in Okinawa, and it was beautiful, but I hear that the local population around that area aren’t too fond of Military men.

I am not one of those jerk soldiers, and I really love the culture and beauty of Japan, I just don't want to be living in a place that would be uncomfortable.

The US military's reputation has suffered in recent years due to a string of incidents, including several rapes of young girls. On Okinawa particulary, there's a fairly vocal anti-base movement.

On the US bases, as you probably know, are small American towns where everything is designed to look and operate like back home, so I don't think you would even have to live amongst the local population per se if there was any unpleasantness.

As my own experience is limited to two drunken arseholes on the subway in Tokyo, I would suggest that if you're a nice guy, then people will treat you in likeness. I mean, it's not like you're going to be strolling around civilian areas in your uniform, in which case, they'll treat you as a civilian.
