It has come to my attention tht horse meat is now being served in the UK in a french restaurant in Edinburgh.
Want to try some without what will undoubtably be a massive price tag at that place? Eat some pedigree chum!
I ate horse meat 10 years ago in Japan. they eat it raw and I can tell you it was F*ing awful! Yakumo
Horse meat is very lean and better for you than beef. That said, man has a personal relationship with the horse and eating them is akin to eating a dog or other creature. Any creature you can climb onto drunk and say "home, girl" and have it take you to the door of your house, in the dark, after miles and miles deserves more respect.
I have ridden horses, they are noble creatures. There was an old man who every night when he left the pub his old horse would take him home in darnkness up to his cabin. I've drunkenly ridden women but never a horse. I love them too much.
Don't worry. Soon, the fashionistas will be eating Hufu, then comes the zombie apocolypse. (For those who don't know what Hufu is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hufu )
sad fact: most horses, when they "retire" they don't go to the Old Horses house...they go to slaughter.
Same here, I think all animals are equal and if I eat one i'll eat another. I eat horse meat quite often actually on bread as they sell it here next to the normal ham's in the supermarket. I ate dog before but never a cat so that one is still on my to do list The only animals I wouldn't eat are monkey's/apes/humans but thats more for health reasons  Plus going back to horses, they never done anything for me and even worse I never did anything bad to horses yet I got bitten by one when I was 6.. so I would eat a horse over a friendly cow any day out of revenge!
Horse steak is lovely. Whenever I'm in Brussels I make a point of eating several. Can't imagine eating it raw though (fucking hell Yakumo I bet it was rank!!!) but I detest all raw meat dishes (except the Venison Tartare I once had prepared for me by a world famous chef).
They do deserve more respect horses are ment to be ridden not eaten i know it is a delicacy in france and other places. I have ridden a horse when i was younger and want to do it again. I had rabbit stew when i was younger and even though i liked it i never ate it again out of respect. I have a rabbit and two cats and i could never imagine boiling them a pot and having them for dinner as they are very loving animals.
It costs quite a bit to keep a horse, especially when it's not making you money. So, they get sold for their meat. Financially speaking it's a no-brainer. Ethically however it's a bit trickier...People keep poultry and use their eggs/kill them as well, although it is known that they can be good pets. It's a matter of perception that differs from person to person.
I've heard the opposite from a number of people. I've had girlfriend's who've eaten dog, my mom has eaten dog, friends that have. My mom constantly jokes about eating my dog, but said she never could just because we've had him since he was a puppy.
It's nothing new eating horses meat in Europe. Every time the hard times came (like wars) people start eating horses meat and for same reason the meat was/is cheaper then other meat. Here in Czech you can buy all sort of horse meat products in shops. Same like in Germany/Austria or Hungery.
...hook a brother up? I wanna eat every animal. Nay, two of every animal. My stomach and bowel movements will be Noah's Ark.
