what are some consoles that are released only to hotels? i will start sega saturn 6-loader: could hold 6 sega saturn games. since the saturn wasnt as popular as the 64 or ps1, not many (under 100) were sold. i also remember going to a hotel as a kid and they had a system type thing (coincidentally i remember a phillips label on it) that rented SNES games for $7 from the machine. cookie to anyone that knows what its called. i also remember it rented movies, and checking out what "adult favorites" was.
Theres the lodgenet systems, I know there is an n64 variant, and i think theres a PS1 one too. Theres a NES system, And I think there is a SNES one too. Also on a similar note, a few years ago I remember going on a virgin atlantic plane which had Snes systems on the in flight entertainment thing - I remember playing through SMW on a flight to the caribbean.
3DO (in Japan) and Gamecube can be added, as well as confirmation for PSX. There's also a Megadrive/Genesis multi-cart changer thing, but I'm pretty sure it's just from a display case. Interesting topic, anyway. Did any of these ever make it to the UK, by the way?
I remember staying in a place along time ago that had N64 controllers with RJ-45 connections to the TV, but from the menu you could order either N64 or PS1 games I never tried it, but remember thinking that was kind of bizzarre. Also lets not forget the greatest system of all times attempt at a Hotel unit, the 3DO  http://assembler.roarvgm.com/3DO_ROBO/3do_robo.html

They still advertise SMW as a playable game on their system, but I couldn't find a way to access it. I don't think the hardware on the 747 I was on was based upon the SNES, so maybe it is emulated or even recoded? It might just be that the information booklet was intended for a different plane and mistakenly put on the London -> Newark flight, but all the movies were up to date. The system, incidently, is the one that allows you to pick movies and watch them any time, rather than the queued one-movie-per-channel type of system. This was at the end of June, 2006
SNK also produced a hotel unit for its AES system back in its heyday, when it could afford such side ventures. I'm not sure of the exact number produced, but I'm almost positive it never passed the triple digits, much less double. Here are some pictures from an auction that recently ended ($700).
Really? Got anywhere to prove that. Not doubting you, just curious. Got a new one myself you see. I think there were probably triple figures tbh. I've certainly seen many for sale over the years, 10+ without really being into neo. Always skint when I see them though otherwsie I'd get one.
i will try to find teh article, but i think i seen it on this site. i know there was an ebay auction where its sold for about $2000
Heh heh, I can't wait till it shows up. As far as the Lodgenet systems, am I the only person who has contemplated eating the $35.00 room charge for a missing controller? I know it is useless when disconnected from the system but I still want one. Every time I'm staying at a hotel with one of these my wife has to talk me out of taking it with me.
About the Sega Saturn 6-shooter... I think I've seen it. One was on Yahoo a couple of months ago. Yahoo won't let us go back and see old auctions as far as they used to. I was the second highest bidder on it so I would have been able to access the old auction. But, times have changed... I got outbid at $350, so if its the same system I'll bid more if they're selling at $2000...heh. But this system was also new and unused. It looked like it had been recently built and the Seller really didn't have much information on it so it looked a bit risky. It might not have been the one you're talking about but it held 6 CDs in a large case and worked like a CD changer...
The first units sold in Japan were the hotel units. They were 10,000 yen more expensive than the AES home units which followed a few months later.
Where did you get that info from? The AES as a rental machine was the first unit outside MVS arcade afaik. I have a feeling the hotel units were some years later. The telling thing could be which controller they came with? If it was the Neo CD stick or pad then its clear.
The guy who won it posts at the neo geo forums. It seems like the final price was pretty low considering the rarity of the thing and all the games that came with it.
I saw a website showing the release date in 1990 with a price of 58,000 yen, which is the rental price. The regular price was 48,000 yen. I assumed that the rental was the hotel unit since it was rented to businesses. Perhaps that's not correct? Maybe that we just for the green/white box units.
Rental Neo in Japan> This was just the home AES with a sticker on it. NOT a hotel unit. PSX Hotel Units> This is actually kind of amusing at the PSX setups were pretty low tech. The in room controller fed back to what was basically a fancy KVM switch. When you picked a game it would swap you to a retail PSX unit with the game in it and reset the unit. The controller was nothing more than a really long extension cable and the games were retail, off-the-shelf, discs. -hl718
Was it unboxed? I've seen 2 on yahoo in the last 6 months, both from the same seller, same extra games etc. The first was a few months back like you, the second really recently. Here's the link. Exactly the same auction each time! Perhaps he got a bum for a buyer. http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b68410879 As for $2000. Not a realisitic price. I well overpaid on a brand new boxed complete one and it was less!
