Heh heh heh. With lots and lots of money, and most likely a good contact in Japan with access to YJ. The Mario and Luigi controllers were prizes from Club Nintendo, and were available only by redeeming points collected from the purchase of various Gamecube or GBA games - I believe they were 500 points a piece. While I'm unaware of official production numbers, I thought they were rather low - something like 1000-5000 or so, but I could be wrong.
Yeah, my answer would have been buy it I don't think they are available any more from Ninty. You'd have to get one off a collector, eBay, Yahoo Japan or a Japanese gaming shop. Be prepared to spend quite a bit!
I'd expect to blow like $200 for the pair, and then another $100-$150 for the white and teal Club Nintendo controller. I've got a big thing for LE peripherals, but I just don't have the cash to blow on these right now, I'm sticking to the LE Street Fighter controllers instead (lol, not nearly as cool).
Nintendo just released more of all 3 versions starting yesterday. This is like the 3rd time they've done this.
Depends on your definition of "Limited" I suppose. I know that they're outta production, and I don't think they're going to make any more. If you go to the major game store sites (EB, Gamestop, generally a good representation of what is in production and readily available) not all four characters are listed, they only have one or two (whatever they have left over). I had Ryu, just picked up Ken tonight. I'm buying the Chun Li one tommorrow at the Tyson's Corner Gamestop, which leaves only Akuma (hardest to track down, going to use Lik Sang) and the big arcade stick, which is just awesome. I intend to actually open none of them. They're nothing like the caliber of the Club Nintendo stuff in terms of collectibility though (partially because they were both available retail and available in the US). I dunno, I like 'em. I have a NIB Negcon, I'm a peripheral dork, lol. EDIT: That Gundam Wavebird is teh sex though. I might have to lay down the cash for one of those.
I swear by the PS2 Nuby pads, they are totally awesome. Contrary to popular misconception, they AREN'T based off the Saturn pads at all, instead being similar to the Dreamcast's ASCII fighter pad (so similar, in fact, that I wonder if Nuby and ASCII are somehow related.) And isn't that Street Fighter 15th Anniversary joystick just amazing? By the way, Wanganrunner, you might check a Blockbuster video for the Akuma/Gouki controller - that's where I got mine, and some part of me remembers hearing something like that one being a Blockbuster exclusive, perhaps? Also, head over to EBGames' page and do a search for Street Fighter Controller - you'll see that there's a Sagat, Guile, and Akuma version of the controller coming in April for XBox. Now if they only released a PS2 Sakura version...
I'm not sure if I'll be collecting the Xbox ones. Maybe, we'll see. I'll check out my local Blockbuster today for the Akuma controller. I might try and score a couple loose, opened ones on ebay to actually USE. I may also save that honor for the upcoming PS2 Satun 6-button though, we'll see.
oh, because it's the type of LE that if you buy only one, you should keep it unopened? will it really increase in value in a near future? if i have some cash to spend and don't have any good game to buy, i think i'll check this out.
Yes and no. It never got a western release, so you have to go through importers or on Ebay to get one (for the far more reasonable price of ~$30). So it's LE like the Spice Gamecube, I guess you could say...
I have no real reason to open them. I have a lot of gaming stuff, but I seriously only have like 4-5 hrs a week to actually spend playing games. I have no incentive to start opening these things up...I mean hell, I don't even OWN a PS2 SF game... I'm going to keep them all snug in their boxes, I see no reason to unseal them unless I really wanna use 'em, and I'm not particularly compelled to, although people do say that they're excellent controllers.
