Well, my mum is in the UK but my wife's mum is here in Japan so we all went out to a lovely stake house and ate, drank and had a great time.
Nothing. I respect and appreciate those around me equally all year round, as I should, not when a fake holiday tells me to.
^THIS. Can't stand those made-up days, that force people to play friendly and/or buy presents. Worst of all: Christmas. >_<
What's the problem with an annual celebratory event? I live far from my family, so what's the problem in sending them gifts to remind them that they're loved once in a while? It's a simbolic gesture and it is not about being "fake" at all (unless YOU want it to be of course).
Shock horror gasp, it -IS- possible to appreciate a person, treat them well all year round and treat them EXTRA well on that day.
