Hey guys. So I brought a new laser to try and get my PC Engine CD-ROM2 up and running. The laser itself on the new unit looks like the old one, but it's connectors are very different from the ribbon cable the original uses: What's the trick to installing this?
that looks like the laser for a "super cdrom2" unit. not an original cdrom2. so I dont think you will be able to use it... what is the problem with the old one? is it the middle gear? i know that's the problem with mine..
Damn really? It's not possible to rig it up for use with the CDROM2? The middle gear is fine (I have a replacement) but games won't load. I don't see the laser firing, so it looks like the laser is dead to me.
Sure you didn't need a sony kss-240? They use the single ribbon cable. Note I know nothing about pcengine cd stuff lol!
Do I? The CD-ROM2 uses 2 ribbon cables though. Anyway, here's what a KSS-240 looks like: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-repl...AU_Video_Game_Accessories&hash=item2572b08772 Similar connections as the one I bought... Apparently, it's suppose to take a KSS-220a or KSS-162a, but all the ones I've seen don't have the two long ribbon cables.
