Okay, I've been doing a lot of search and I'm not coming up with answers. The most likely cause is I don't know what to search for. ::: shrugs ::: All I keep finding on here and the web is how to rip PS2, PS3 and PS4 games (most likely because they are newer?). I want to rip 2 PS1 games that I legally own so I can play them on a emulator, but I don't know what I need to use to do that. I'm on a Macintosh using 10.11 (OS X El Capitan), but I am willing to use Windows 10 if needed. The software doesn't need to be free, but that would be nice but not required. How do you do this deed with the newer computers? I remember there being all kinds of Utils for the Mac for PowerPC, but even those weren't showing up. Any help? Thanks! =hugh
http://forums.macrumors.com/threads...t-the-bottom-of-thread.1404933/#post-15270400 I feel this may be of use but I cannot confirm if it works due to not being a mac user. However, since Macs are somewhat similar to Linux (understatement but whatever) I can say that usually things done in the terminal get things done if you know what you're doing. It's been reported to work so that's absolutely a plus but there's issues from time to time so if there is a problem just try again. I cannot stress enough how dangerous the "dd" command is if misused, so be sure all is correct before using it. While there is that method the other methods include using CloneCD as copy protection is also copied to avoid bad rips, but this is a Windows method (absolutely fine if you dualboot or use a Virtual Machine). Now there's also use using an emulator to read the disc from your drive, as there is in fact support for such but I'm not sure how supported that is on OSX. Hopefully this helps but if it does not then maybe a more Mac oriented user can help. Speaking of which, the lack of software for doing this surprises me, but considering it's Apple that part doesn't surprise me. Edit - I'm sure you're fine since this is a question relating to Mac OSX support instead of the usual Windows stuff as that's actually somewhat problematic because of all the piracy and whatnot. As long as you don't post links to download them I'm sure you're fine. @Borman What's your stance on this?
Just use Disk Utility and rip it as "master disc". It will produce a .cdr file that you can rename as .iso. Done. Welcome to the efficiency of OS X.
Welcome to the efficiency of OS X Welcome to the efficiency of OS X Welcome to the efficiency of OS X efficiency of OS X Duuuuuuude. @hugh Have you tried using a program called 'Burn' to make an image?
The game I am trying to RIP Is X-COM (it is a DATA and Audio disk), the emulator seems to only work with rips that have the boot code intact, I tried Img Burn on Windows, but I don't think it RIPPED it right, because it will not boot. I did a search for CloneCD and found that it's discontinued and I can't figure out what is a safe place to get the APP because of this.
I forgot to post this yesterday.. Your first problem is that you are on OSX This would've been a lot easier if you told us the two games you are trying to backup. Find out if they are multi-track games and if they have LibCrypt protection EDIT: okay multi-track Have you tried cdr-dao?
I'm absolutely sure that all command line cdr tools that work in linux will work in OS X too (because BSD systems use them too and OS X is BSD variant) and there's some GUI for them. Never did it myself though because i never tried to copy CD on my Macbook Air - NAS is enough for all backups, and i have desktop and linux laptop to copy CDs/DVDs/BRs and only other OS X machine i have is old PowerBook G4 which got Toast Titanium installed but i didn't use it to copy discs for about 13 years - internal drive is DVD-ROM, external - USB 1.1... and i don't have FireWire DVD/CD-RW drive.
The game is 'X-COM: UFO DEFENSE' and 'Air Combat' as for it being multi-track. Yes it is. It's a mix of DATA and AUDIO tracks. I try to use IMG BURN (on Windows 10) but the emulator on the Mac OS (OpenEmu) will not play it because it doesn't have boot code in the image (I think). All the images that I have downloaded that work on the emulator all have their boot code still (with exception for a few that just lockup when you go to play them), at least I think they have their boot code. The games boot up just like if they were put in a real PSX (PS1). I have Toast 14, but Toast has a problem making a .ISO and .CUE (if the game has audio tracks) file which this emulator requires, which is why I am asking for a util to use. I'm very new when it comes to the Terminal commands so I wouldn't know what to do. Since me being on the Mac is a issue, what util is good on Windows 10 other than Img Burn or CloneCD (which I haven't been able to find from a reliable sources). Is there a Windows 10 program I can use if pay has a trail that would like me to make these two copies? =hugh
I know Alcohol 120% has a preset for PS1 discs (and PS2). Haven't tried personally but that's one if CloneCD is not an option (obviously cracked copies exist but you want to stay safe I can assume). The main issue is that the disc must be copied with the copy protection in tact otherwise it will lead to a corrupted data or activate anti-piracy measures. I may also be wrong but is Daemon Tools an option?
sp193 has already answered that you can't make an ISO out of multi-track games Try to follow this guide: http://www.pandorawiki.org/Creating_images_of_PSX_games_using_Linux I tested this in Linux only, not sure if cdrdao syntax is the same in OSX, but I assume the program is available
Well, hugh, I will let you with all these guys which think they know. Good luck, you're going to waste a lot of time, but, well, not my problem.
What's wrong with just downloading the ISO? You own the disc anyway and removes all the headaches you're currently having due to your software limitations.
Because these games I want don't work because either they ripped wrong, ie. Doesn't have the boot code/ game code incomplete. For example x-com isn't complete. It has a .cue file and audio files are .bin no game code. =hugh
From what I've seen OpenEmu experimental should work with ISOs but failes to recognize my test Castlevania SOTN dump. Fails to add the game... I used cdr2dao and toc2cue and the sheet looks identical to the one from https://github.com/OpenEmu/OpenEmu/wiki/User-guide:-CD-based-games FILE "CASTLEVANIA_SOTN.bin" BINARY TRACK 01 MODE2/2352 FLAGS DCP INDEX 01 00:00:00 TRACK 02 AUDIO FLAGS DCP PREGAP 00:02:00 INDEX 01 50:53:45 The game plays in ePSXe Windows, don't really want to waste any more time on it now
.cue and .bin are fine for multi-track games... Did you actually read anything on their user guide? Supported Formats PC Engine CD/TurboGrafx-CD, PC-FX, PlayStation (using Mednafen) CUE+BIN, both single and multiple .BIN tracks CUE+IMG, CUE+ISO CUE + BIN/IMG/ISO + CDDA tracks with WAV/OGG/FLAC. MP3 is NOT supported. CloneCD CCD+IMG+SUB
I was about to use a free App on the Windows Side called Magic ISO and this copies the entire disc and makes a .BIN and .CUE. What do I mean by it copying the entire disc, it also copies the Boot Code which OpenEmu requires. Why ePSXe for Windows doesn't require this I don't know. :/ =hugh
I'd recommend (and this is what I'm using) AnytoISO (on the mac) or IMGBurn on Windows. Here's a link to the opened setup of imgburn (the setup has a malware for ads, OpenCandy, and that's been removed.) https://www.mediafire.com/folder/jin670rzk4kso/IMGBurn
