We usually just go through PayPal for payment and PM addresses. That's how I've done it every time. We have a dedicated feedback forum so users can look up a seller and see what others have said about them.

PayPal is the best method for this. I bought an item from a member here outside the site and sent a money order but I don't recommend that method incase the member is a scammer.

See on the left side how I've been here for 8 years and have over 5k posts? Typically that is a decent way to tell if someone won't screw you over. No guarantees obviously but those of us invested in this place are typically on the level. I'd also expect them to have a feedback thread somewhere as mine is spread between here, eBay, RacketBoy, Digital Press, and NintendoAge.

In addition to what the others have said, try to buy from people in your own country or region when you can. Customs and Taxes can become a headache, and if something goes wrong it is much more difficult to resolve on a international transaction.

Would like to add to this that generally as a EU citizen buying from someone in the EU will not result in import taxes or handling costs. Of course you're still completely right that a problem with an international transaction is much harder to settle.
