I'm currently using Collectorz Game Collector software to keep an inventory of my modest hardware collection. Most of the time I don't get the complete setup, either some cable is missing, or controller or most often the original AC adapter. Other times I happen to buy those spares individually. And I'm coming to a point where I already have a baby Kraken creature with a katamari ball and it's evolving! In other words, I'm starting to loose control of what I already have and most importantly what I'm missing to have a complete system. I like Game Collector (mainly it's predefined categories and hw types) but it's a bit overkill and I was looking for something more hardware oriented. Excel is not a viable option to me. And since we're at it, how many duplicate consoles do you keep, if any?
well, i certainly keep NO record of ANYTHING on computer, just torrent/FTP upload logs and various NON-personal utilities/TOOLS! ... i keep NO record just incase the revenue collectors (police) claim i paid full retail price, i pay taxes, and DODGE what i can. ... mental lists are required, though not as accurate as live documentation by any stretch. ... 1, 4x psx with parallel I/O socket on rear of console. (custom painted one black five years ago, still works when it's tested periodically) 2, 4x ps2 chunky (2x of them are silver chunkies) and 3x rj45/lan hdd cards. made a recess for the ide flyer and power molex to extend out the rear of the console under where the NW card is fitted, gouged a little of the ps2 housing is where the NW card meets the ps2 housing and the flyers fold back around to the top of the ps2, hdd sits atop the housing 3, 5x dreamcast. all vanilla bar one, which is an ugly NTSC-U LTD-EDIT black and blue thing. (r0) one dreamcast is dead at the gdi assembly, really fucked it up dumping games, the sled assembly run itself off the rails, dethreaded ends and can't get it back on, the sled is shagged too, was warned about it... 4, 4x xbox, one transparent in storage (no colour) awaiting TSOP when i can grow a pair...or bribe friend to sort it. 3x black, one of which is softmodded with SPPV's finest. :smile-new: 5, ngc w/all base attachments bar the telephone modem card, black, and in storage. .... seriously can't be arsed to go on accounting, pissing me off, handhelds are omitted too. (and shit by comparison to the telly) ... maintenance via the usual routes, when the console starts to shows temperature increases, gets taken apart and cleaned, the standard practice here. if the consoles show NO signs of heat buildup, they're left as is (no point fixing what isn't broken) VERY rare that i can get away with that, sooner or later, ALL things require a teardown. :witless: [edit] typo...
I have a google doc I'm updating with all my stuff, and I usually have about 1 extra console for backup/modding purposes.
I just database my Xbox collection in Excel, really about it. So later on down the track I can see how much I paid for it and if it's a profit or loss when time comes to sell.
I only track my games and not my hardware. I do keep boxed items in boxes, but for loose items I have no real organization. I just put everything into a bin and go digging through it when I need something. I really need to figure out what parts I have, because I know I do need some things.
I think you may be confused about how inland revenue operates. The police aren't going to stage a morning raid to retrospectively tax a handful of import consoles.
