How do you mod a PC DVD Drive to work on an original Xbox?

Hello everyone!

Since the laser in my original Xbox is dead, I was reading through the forums on what my options are. Most people recommended getting a new drive or replacing the laser, however, one post said it is possible to modify a PC DVD drive to work on the original Xbox.

Is this possible and if so, how can I go about doing this? Does anyone have a guide or tutorial I can follow?

Any help will be highly appreciated!

 

To my knowledge, certain drives can be flashed with special firmware to work as a normal Xbox drive, but I've heard many PC DVD drives will also work on the Xbox BUT won't work with original Xbox games (can still read media, etc).

I think the problem is that data on the original Xbox DVD disc is written from the outer edge to the center. PC DVD drive is made to read standard DVD disc with data written from center to the edge.
