How do you slim down the 32X so it works better on the Sega Nomad?

Hello everyone, I was considering getting a Sega Nomad but I was wondering about something.

I heard the 32X works on the Nomad but it is too big to be of any practical use on the go. I was wondering if there was a way to slim down the 32X so it will fit in the Nomad and still function properly. I'm open to installing the 32X inside the Nomad but if it could be kept external, how would you get the 32X to run off of rechargeable batteries?

Nomad has no video input. Without modding, you're still tethered to a TV.

I'm ok with that as a temporary solution.

I was going to replace the screen with a modern RGB-compatible LCD. I could then wire the 32X's RGBS output to the new LCD instead of the Nomad's RGBS output. That would mean either having a custom cable going into the Nomad or cramming the 32X inside the Nomad and wiring it up.

By cutting off the back of the Nomad, then wiring up a 32X right to the cartridge slot, there's nowhere sane to put batteries.
Normally battery packs attach to the Nomad's rear slits.

Care to fill me in though? I wasn't aware RGBS LCDs of this size were commercially available.

Lol maybe someone could make an adapter that plugs into the Nomad's battery slits and goes to a separate unit much like the original Game Gear rechargeable batteries.

Ozone was talking in his HDMI and RGB mods thread that he was modding some standard composite screen to accept RGBS by hacking the firmware and soldering to it. The LCD I've seen that supported RGBS without mods was about $80. I forgot where I saw it but I can't seem to find it anymore. If I find it, I'll post back here.

If you're going to stick with a 3" screen to fit original front, there's very little difference between RGB and composite (under $10 on eBay). You really can't see the difference well enough to justify the extra $50-$70 for RGB LCD. It's possible the cheap composite LCD can be modded if you can find where the composite video separator is before it's digitized for LCD module.

But first, making 32X work and keeping it hand-held should be your priority. Remove the back, hack in the 32X (the vertical cart board inside 32X can be flattened so it'd be horizontal with the main 32x board. But that means your Genesis and 32x game carts would stick straight out unless you also hack the 32x cart connector. Also be sure to do something about that damned white cable inside 32X, it usually fails and results in "dead" 32x because of crappy connector design. If you could, rip it out and solder in all wires on both board so there's no connector that can fail.

Also beware the Nomad + 32x would likely suck batteries dry. So don't think of making it work with plain old AA's at all. Modern LiPo batteries could probably handle the monstrosity and still outlast AA batteries.
