    Out of interest, is there a web site or list showing how many games were made for each computer or console? I know no two people would agree exactly on the list, as it would be beset with difficulties (i.e. some people would want to count, say, an NTSC and a JAP version of the same game as two different games, even if they were identical other than in language, whereas other people would say they should only count as one game, and some games might have such limited releases that some people would say they shouldn't be on the list at all, and still others would debate if homebrew games count, etc), but just for curiosity's sake, is there such a list.

    I know the PC, ZX Spectrum, C64, Playstation 2, and probably NES and PSX have thousands of games, and most other machines had a lot less than these (though of course lack of quantity does not necessarily mean lack of quality, or vice versa). Numbers I've found are;

    Megadrive (Genesis) - 915 (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sega_Mega_Drive_games)

    N64 - 388 (Source: http://s9.zetaboards.com/Nintendo_64_Forever/topic/7342003/1)

    Virtual Boy - 22 (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virtual_Boy_games)

    ZX Spectrum - 12,853 (Source: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/archive.html)

    I won't bother looking for any more, as I'm supposed to be finishing a report (I started this post to give me something else (something interesting) to do, I detest having to write stuff for work - I'd add that I also detest work, but who doesn't?), but if anyone has anything to add/correct then please do so. I'm surprised my cursory use of Google didn't throw up a comparison list of the number of games per machine, so maybe no one's interested in such a comparison (well, it would serve no useful purpose), it's just that I was bored, and was thinking of something to post to distract me from what I should be doing. But if anyone does post up links or additions or whatever, then please keep fanboyism and flaming out of it, the number of games on a machine is no reflection or guide to the quality of the machine's best games, and from what I've seen of this forum (I joined it a while back, after buying an Everdrive) it does seem to be free of the idiots who drag sites like gamefaqs.com down with their fanboyish trolling.

    Well you do have to define what qualifies for your list. Typically people will say, only Licensed games. Meaning all unofficial pirate and homebrew releases don't count for that. If it's just anything goes, the list for many systems gets a lot longer. I think I heard the NES has somewhere around 700+ Licensed releases in the US. SNES is something similar probably. Playstation 1 is probably quite high. Particularly if you count all three regions together.

    I'm not aware of anyone having made a good list or chart of the number of games released for all the popular consoles.

    According to the PSX: Guide to the Sony Playstation book, there were 1283 games for the PS1 in USA. More than 4000 in Japan.

    Retrocollect has excellent pal databases for most consoles (link in my sig), when you start going into all releases worldwide it starts to turn into a nightmare though!
