I was in my lock-up today, checking that the recent bad weather hadn't got in and ruined anything (- it hadn't, fortunately). This led me to wonder - how many more of you have found you've run out of storage space at home for your collections, and had to rent additional storage? Here are some (really bad - sorry!) pics I took on my phone of my unit... Amongst that lot are computers, computer parts, dev gear, video game magazines, printers, software, arcade machines, professional video editing equipment... basically stuff that was in my studio but wasn't being used so had to go into storage. :-(
First time I run out of space I moved to a bigger place But this time I'm not sure what to do.. I've filled up all my wardrobes and the space under my bed and the space under a table and my bookshelf. I have a storage for the apartment but I wouldn't dare put anything valuable there.
I don't... takes the fun out of collecting, don't you think? That, and I'm downsizing on my collection. I still have a lot of stuff, but most of it is at my parents place - my house in college town is increasingly filling up with games, books, spare televisions and camera gear but I can manage, fortunately!
Do you think you could do with a couple more playstations? My stuff has been in storage for far too long so I might think about getting rid of some of it.
We have one. Go for climate controlled. Ours in is Florida and has survived a lot of hurricanes, terrible humidity and very few checks over the last 3 or 4 years.
I am iffy on using storage for stuff like that. Especially if you accidentally are late on a payment. I have a cousin who did that with all his vinyl and they guys locked him out of his storage and sold all of it after being late on a payment.
I don't rent additional storage but I store some consoles and games I don't want to see any more (gameboy, pal n64) in the cellar.
I keep my PlayStations in the house, but that's meant that other (less important) stuff has had to go outside, so we've hired a 20 foot shipping container and dropped it in the backyard (at least until we build a proper garage / shed...). Dave.
She's for it on the basis of it costing about $100 per week for a self-storage room, or only $25 per week for a container in our backyard. Hopefully we'll have a proper shed built in about three months....
I've recently been looking at storage and getting storage at a set temperature seems essential. Most storage in Scotland is not kept at anything other than outside temp which is useless in protecting electronics. I've found one place in Edinburgh which guarentees 15 degrees C. I've been to a location with ambient temp and it was useless - clean is pointless if the temp drops and dampness can set in.
Bert, I take it from your location you mean.... and not... And yeah, I took that photo of the sign in NJ. Never occured to me to look up local forum members! heh.
