How many screenshots are enough?

Discussion in 'Unreleased Games Discussion' started by Benedict_Arnold, May 22, 2006.

  1. If I got a game like "Sirens" for PSone, and I wanted to post a preview of it on a website, how many screenshots are enough or too much? First off, it's not Sirens so don't get excited. Assume it's a game no one has ever seen. I had captured over 350 screenshots of it. I put 60 screenshots on a preview page but I think it's a little much. But I wanted to show the different facets of the game. Is 60 too much? I captured some FMV shots so should I scrap those? (Even though they are part of the gameplay?)

I'm sure I'll have people asking what it is. I cannot say at the moment. I want to write a review of the game first and then need to ask if I can post pics (I don't see why not, the developer is out of business). The thing is I suck at writing reviews.

It depends on the variety and quality of the shots. There's no exact number, but if we're talking low res PSOne-style, then 30 would be enough if they were all very different.

I suppose it alos depends on the way you lay them out. No one wants to see 60 pictures all jumbled up one one page.

I would say have 2 screenshots per level of the game.

Maybe over 50 screenshots is too much, but if you are using them for a website you can have a separate page just full of as many screens as possible.

    That's just my opinion.

    Why not make separated pages?

    Menu screens
    Level 1 screens
    Level 2 screens
    ....
    credits

  5. I would say if people have never seen it, can't have enough. People love vids too

  6. Ok, so the 60 is too much then. There are low res small pics. I'll narrow it down. It's hard to put different levels on it, but that's a good idea I might try.

Just make a "Gallery" type page where people can click a thumbnail to see all your screenshots if they so choose to. Use the best of the lot in the actual review.

Like people have said, you ought to have some sort of gallery where people can see all your pictures. Maybe you could have that and just put a selected few somewhere else; perhaps in the review?

Some people might have put a set of sample screens up and then the entire 60 or whatever into a seperate zip file downloadable off the site.

Depends on the game. For most games I would think 10 or less would be plenty. For high demand games 20 should be enough. Always leave them wanting more or you kill any mystique it might have had.

  11. BuyAtari (as usual) is always right. 20 max. Leave ppl wanting more. Thank you to everyone for help. Now to narrow it down to half. Dang.

  12. Gallery would be cool, but it's too hard to code that stuff. I'm not an expert like you guys.

    Something like:

    Code:
    <a href="screen01.png" target="_blank"><img src="screen01_small.png" border="0"></a>

would be good, whereas "screen01.png" is a screenshot in it's max resolution and "screen01_small.png" is the same screenshot a fraction of its size. Then on the page the viewers would see multiple screenshots in small resolution. When they click the image a new window opens up with the full scaled image. ;-)

Any, just get some pictures up! Do you really need help deciding HOW MANY PICTURES (wtf?) to take or are you just a tease? ;)

  15. I do need to ask how many pics becuase I had way too many. Next, stupid me wants to write a review of the game. Since I suck at writing, it will probably take me months to do this. Lastly, I think I need to ask permission if I can post pics. I don't want to get anyone in trouble.

Are you going for a review, or a hands on?

Because a hands on needs meer screens than a review imo.
