There are allot of variations of 360 debug/test/dev kits out there, So I was wondering what they all can do and if there are allot of differences between them. And some specs; like have some of these kits more memory then the retail onces?

The following kits come in to mind:

    - HDMI 360 Codename Zephyr
    - HDMI output.
    - Two cable's sticking out infront of the HDD.
    - A bit higher then a retail 360.

    - Development kit
    - Two cable's sticking out infront of the HDD.

    - Development kit /w Sidecar
    - 60gb hdd

    - Black debug

Are there more variations? and does anyone know more functions of the above 360's?

    Development kit /w Sidecar
3 variations I am aware of
black on black it runs at 2.8 and was first dev kit
grey on black 2nd variation runs at 3.2 and has full funtionality
white on white final runs at 3.2 but has kernal debugging removed

black debugs are reviewers kit and do not allow kernel debugging no power inputs or hookups for sidecar

Anyways this is what I have read from around the web

Demo Kits should have 60 gb hdd. Also slap a grey sidecar on a debug unit, demo kit or white dev kit and the kit acts just the black and grey dev kit.
Also for the hell of it here are some internal pics of a demo kit.http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=561853

Okay so the pictures above are the internals of the very big HDD as seen on this picture?

But on the picture I can see that the Sidecar covers the complete top of the 360. But there are also units with a normal looking HDD on it, but with cables sticking out infront of the HDD. Does that mean that it has the same functions?

    example:

Yes that kit with the cables sticking out is for connecting a sidecar.

    ...Not necessarily.

The 360 in the first pic is a machine fitted with a sidecar that deliberately has no PIX (Performance Investigator for Xbox) port, thus it probably has no internal PIX harness.

The 360 in the second pic has both sets of cables that can be connected to external test H/W.

...This external H/W achieve's the same job as a sidecar with both DVD emu and PIX enabled, as per early sidecar units, aka black/grey units.

One question. Where do the "test" units with the little side window fit into all of this? They appear to be fitted with an internal chip mounted underneath the metal enclosure, then a window is cut right through the plastic presumably so that cables can be attached to the 360 and the actual UNIT is therefore tested/tuned.

Just curious as I have seen 2 images online with this small window & the chip, but there seems little information (that I can see) on them. Are they development(al) machines or development machines? Subtle difference.

Internal QA Dev Kits, primarily used to test 'custom' Buck Controller config/settings.

Also the SMC is tweaked as I have heard,as my kit is still pretty loud.
