I've only seen it a few times... I think it's called Dikara. Any ideas how much it's worth? Cheers! pedro
I think you mean DreamKara, its not very rare, and not worth a huge amount, but its a nice addition if you collect Dreamcast stuff.
Well the DORIKARA wasn't so rare at the begining of this year but is becoming a little harder to find. Still wouldn't say it was that rare though. Yakumo
Like Tachikoma has commented is specially for hard-collectors, since it's strange that someone from out of Japan use it...
What exactly is the going rate for a DoriKara system anyways, with the nessicary standard hookups? It would be rather fun to get one, I think, but my only questions are A) Will it work with a NTSC/UC Dreamcast that can boot imports via a disc, or do I have to have a NTSC/J DC? And B) Had there been very many addon-discs released specially for the machine? Downloading songs from the network (if it's still up) isn't an option for me. And am I right in assuming it could run any karaoke software - CD-G or whatever the standard is?
It's sad, but this periphreal works in a real on-line mode, since you've to work on-line everytime you wanna sing. And the service isn't free. It's given throught thr SEGA Music infrastructure, so you've to pay a monthly quote. There're funny ranks over all Japan, but I doubt that someone from outside Japan is interested in that...
The Dorikara is a wonderful add on for the Dreamcast. Mine gets used quite a bit. Nothing better than having a few drinks with the old karaoke going. The price for the service last time I checked is 500 yen for a full day or 2500yen for the whole month !! This is very cheap when you consider a normal karaoke studio can set you back 500 yen per person per hour !. The Dorikara service is unlimited downloads until your contract is up. Best of all if you have BB there is only really one initial wait for the 1st song to download since all the others download while one song is playing. I've had up to 4 or 5 songs stored and ready to go at once. Yakumo
. maybe you will need Hi-Saturn and Hitachi Karaoke unit for that? I've seen this one as low as 2-3000 yen in Japan few months back but since I won't be able to use outside Japan what's the point... if I ever collect all DC peripherals then maybe... :drinkers: cheers
Uys Yakumo, you're the first person outside Japan who I've known to use the Dorikara. I was doing some connections with a friend, but since my Japanese is still too bad I wasn't able to do much. When The Yakumo Greatest Hits? He he he .
I'm not outside of Japan (Well I am at the moment) I use my Dorikara from my home in Japan with my wife and friends. It is possible to use the Dorikara outside of Japan but it isn't easy setting up the Dreamcast with a Japanese account with ISAO if you can't read Japanese. There already has been one :smt033 Belive me, you're best off not listening to it. It can do some real bad damage to your ears :smt043 Yakumo
. this remind that my old man has about four gens of commercial karaoke units at home. The latest one can be hooked up to Internet to d/l latest songs from company's server in Korea. When mom wanted karaoke machine so she can practice he went out and bought the same unit those karaoke bars are using. Since then he's been upgrading the units with later models... he also has disco ball - very groovy - and several modules that measure and gives you the score just like karaoke bar except it doesn't cost a cent. Now mom remebers the songs by their number on the unit rather than titles... i know he's bit of gadget junkie... this reminds me to ask him for one of his early units he no longer uses... cheers
Haha, I actually bought one at an import shop couple years ago. I never seen it before the day I bought it, and didn't even knew it exists until I talked to the owner. Looking back now, it's amazing someone would stock the DreamKara outside of Japan. Although this owner is extremely friendly, and he set up countless ISAO accounts for his customers so they can play Get Colony! (I think that's what the game is called) in US connecting to the Japanese DC server. He even plays against his Japanese friends frequently he told me; and he offered to set up an ISAO account for me so I could use my newly bought DreamKara back then. But I have no intention to use it, it's a collector's item for me...it's still brand new in the box as of now :smt023
I still have the video you made of yourself playing the karaoke unit, you were somewhat drunk and were sining horribly, man did i have a good laugh :smt040
To Silver Bolt: Are you talking seriously? Ha ha ha. About Dorikara: Well, I started to learn Japanese but I had to leave this for later. However, I try to do my best to understand some Japanese texts and ok, I use an on-line translator. This doesn't work too fine, but it helps me with some texts. I got an ISAO account time ago. Well, really I got a Dricas e-mail account and I updated it when this service dissappeared and passed its administration to ISAO. The disadvantage about which I was talking is for payments. I doubt much that someone from outside Japan pay any money for that kind of service althought he/she spoke Japanese. Only a few, he he he. Salutes.
