*SOLVED* How to copy Amiga Disc Files (.ADF) from PC to AMIGA?

Hi. Well since there is no Amiga (Commodore) thread, I am just wondering if someone can explain to me, how to copy from the PC to the Amiga, disc files?

I have seen it done, where they put a blank Amiga formatted disc into the Amiga, and they copy the file over - but I am confused to know what a null-modem cable plugs into on the PC.

I read you do not put it into your standard parallel (DB-25) printer port (LPT1), but into a modem port. You can also use a DB-9 port which is also a special modem port...

    What is this port?

    Or can someone help me?

I really want to copy some games over / music :crying:

Isn't that just an RS232 port?

I have that port under or next to my DB-25 (printer) port. Found under Windows as COM1.

    So I can use this?

Yes, long as you have a null modem cable (rather than direct cable)

Make sure you get it wired up correctly. You'll also need a program on the Amiga to receive the file. I bought Amiga Forever and it works beautifully with my A500. It includes the Amiga Explorer, but Amiga Explorer is also available from them separately for $10. Also lets you dump your BIOS and transfer to and from a hard disk (if you have one).

Oh yeah, if you're making the cable yourself, be careful. Pins 9 and 10 have voltage on the Amiga side and if you tie them together you'll fry your little friend. I bought mine from an Amiga website, but here's a page on it.

    OK that software is shit...

I dont really want to buy Amiga Explorer. The shareware version did not even work on Windows ME, even though it said it did. I even tried it on Windows 7. When I open it (on Windows 7), it takes 40 seconds, then just says "Error reading from COM port.".

Windows XP, Vista and 7, are not good at the original COM stuff...

Also, that guide you linked is for Linux and to only RECEIVE data. Incorrect cable...

I want to SEND from my PC to the Amiga.

Why is it so damn hard to make an Amiga disc! lol

Xp and co are fine with "original com stuff"

It's more to do with how applications accessed them in win9x vs nt based os

    Ah, ok.

Well I guess I don't have a choice. I will have to buy the software. It is only $10 separate so that's ok.

I may have to also just buy the cable too. I made one (image above), but of course there is always that chance that can be the issue like the issue I had with the Xplorer for the PlayStation :p

If you have a A600 or 1200 you can use the PCMCIA port with a compactflash card and adapter.

Then buy an Amiga A600 as they are cheap and makes your life a lot easier. As does a spare floppy drive.

All you need to do then is to format the CF card on a PC, load up .adf files, plug it into the CF adaptor into the A600 or A1200, boot via the supplied disc, use the WB 2.xx disc as requested and then you just click on the .adf file and put a blank disc into the drive.

You can do it via serial but it can be a pain unless you have an older PC that supports serial properly and you need the software for the Amiga anyway.

Its parallel that has compatibility issues. Serial is pretty standard - can can even use usb to serial adapters fine.

OK I received the cable, and it works perfectly.

I got all the stuff I need copied.

I had to however, use a MS-DOS program to convert .DMS to .ADF.

You can write .DMS-files to floppy with DMS, "dms write floppyname.dms", DMS can be found on the net as a runnable exe-file.
