I've bought an NFS Hot Pursuit Preview and today an Blu Ray Writer, but is there anything specific? I can see the entire files on the PC, according to an old thread, there is no need to use specific software unlike retail games, but the OP said that the hashes ended being different.

Just gonna chime in here with my method. (probably long winded and unnecessary, but makes me feel cool!) Plus I don't have a BD reader in my PC!

Downgrade PS3 TEST to 3.15, install a form of linux. (Yellowdog works nice!)
    Insert BD-R.
    Use dd if=<device> of=<outfile.iso>
That will get you a nice raw dump of the disc.

    Next step is optional!

Use the PS3 Image Generator Tools to decrypt the PS3VOLUME.ISO, to get the decrypted files (I only do this so I can patch the EBOOT to run on a CFW retail!)

Providing you can dump the decrypted contents, yeah. Use IMGburn to create an .iso, then use the same PS3 Disc Image Generator tools to decrypt the .iso to get the contents. Never tried it that way, due to not having a BD drive in my PC, but it should work.

Then just un fake self the EBOOT.BIN, and convert it to a retail EBOOT using various tools available. PM me the EBOOT.BIN if you don't wanna and i'll do it for you. :)

Then transfer the dump over to your GAMES folder for whatever backup manager you use, replace the original EBOOT.BIN and it should launch fine.

Personally I would just dump this with a game manager like multiman or irisman and use PS3 ISO tools to pack it.

For personal use it would be fine. But for preservation purpose it is awful.

Multiman can make an encrypted iso. But keys must be obtained with other software. Check redump.org forums.

Sorry, just forgot this thread, yeah, I want to make copies to preserve, in case something happens to the original.

If it's a burnable disc then most assuredly something will happen to it eventually. Just be sure to keep a copy of the data somewhere out of your geographic region just in case.

But can I simply copy the contents (I can see them on PC) or do I have to extract as an .iso?

That's exactly my question also. Only one pkg-file is present on the preview disc when I insert it in my PC. I can easily copy-paste this file but am I missing something when I do that? Does the disc contain more info? I have this pkg-file stored in my phone so I always have it with me. I'm hoping I'm safe this way. It is also a burned BD-R so it feels pretty unsafe not to make any backups.

If it's a pressed disc, you can't dump pressed PS3 discs on bluray recorders due to PS3 using PS3 specific encryption. Any drive which don't have these keys will refuse the disc.

As mentioned previously you can use a hacked PS3 to dump the data on the disc.

Another method would be the 3k3y ripp3r, it doesn't cost much and will create 1:1 encrypted dumps of any PS3 disc.

I'm still wondering, and I think it is a question that many preview disc owners are interested in because I believe that most preview discs simply contain a pkg-file (at least for PS3). That is all you see when you browse a preview disc in a PC. But is there more info that isn't visible when browsing the disc on a PC? Is this pkg-file all you need to backup or does the disc contain more info? Do you need to create an iso of the disc? The meaning of all this is to make backups to preserve if (or rather when) something happens to the original.

Dumping the disc using IMG Burn, have anyone tried to simply write a new one and test?

    A little off topic:
I acquired a pressed not for sale copy of Kung Fu Rider the other day. Anything special about it? it's a red plain labeled disc.....
